B96 Ratings will drop ,with that playlist .

B96 has to add the dance music back. Period. Forget rap and pop music.

Has B96 been slipping ratings-wise since Todd Cavanagh was promoted from PD to VP/Programming for all of Infinity's CHR/Rhythmic stations several years ago?

I also recall that Jay Stevens, longtime PD of CHR/Rhythmic powerhouse WPGC (Washington, DC) was appointed VP/Programming for all of their Urban stations at the same time, and I was wondering if that promotion and increased workload for Cavanagh resulted in faltering ratings for B96?

WKSC's PD was quoted in R&R last month as saying that 'our objective is to dominate the 18-34 demo'.

Since that has been THE target for CHR/Rhythmic stations for over two decades, why would B96 start playing CHR/Pop stuff in the first place?

This isn't 1988 or 1989 folks---what the HECK are they doing at B96?????

Why doesn't B96 play more hip hop to compete with WGCI? I thought that is who B96 is battling. But I guess not. B96 go and change your slogan to B96 "Where Hip Hop Lives" or "The Station For Hip Hop and R&B" even this would work real good, "The Place For Hip Hop". This is if they want to lean away from the CHR/Rhythmic type format.

Probably because Hip-Hop isn't the strong force it was a few years back. The tide is beginning to turn again to something different. Let's pray it is dance, which is what B96 should go back to. I think some of the listeners are tired of Hip-Hop non stop.

Why would a listener tune into a hip hop station and be tired of listening to it?? That doesn't make much sense to me.
B96 really isn't a "hip-hop" station, it is rhythmic top 40, which is supposed to mean a little bit of everything, including hip-hop. Besides, have you even listened to B96 lately, they don't really play nearly as much hip-hop as they did a few years back.
Also, I think you missed the point about what I was trying to say. I didn't say hip-hop fans were tired of listening to their stations, what I meant was things are changing musicially and not EVERYONE wants to listen to hip-hop non stop!!!!!! Meaning, hip-hop stations have their audience and stations like B96 have theirs where once again EVERYONE is NOT a die hard hip-hop fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On cbsradio.com. CBS lists B96 as a CHR Top 40 station. But I wouldn't compare B96 to CBS Radio's Kiss 95.1 in Charlotte, NC and Kiss 106.1 in Seattle, WA.

I know B96 isn't a hip hop station, you used it in your post so I responded at that same level. And I think I did miss your point, you made it much clearer in this post. B plays a lot of dance mix music as it is, and it honestly sounds like they play the same mixes a lot too.

I say the big difference these days is that B96 has direct, in your face, competition. I think that explains everything. Both stations ratings are so close that essentially they are the same. Statistically any ARB ratings difference less than half a point, is the same. It's great to see actual competition these days.

Some of the females aren't as into Hip Hop as they were a couple of years ago, coupled with the fact that teens now go elsewhere (online, Ipods) for their Hip Hop fix. B-96 more then likely shares much of its cume with Kiss FM rather then with WGCI, and Kiss seems to be beating them by a bit in the ratings. B and Kiss are pretty close musically, though Kiss is obviously more Pop friendly, and somewhat more Pop/Rock friendly then B.

Add to that the fact that Kalle stripped a significant portion of B's Hispanic following, and you have today's close race.
