B98.5 80's Music Weekend - Yet, the next trick from the bag

Out of nowhere, they decide to do an 80's theme this weekend. Creative! I'm still waiting on the day when they will run out of themes. And also, what have we hear? They changed some songs around according to yes.com. They added, hhmmm let's see, Daughtry's "It's Not Over", Cranberries' "Linger", Bee Gee's "Jive Talking", and a few others. By Monday afternoon at the office, the station will still become as boring as before the change. No offense, but the station itself is still dull and pathetic. They have my pick as the most redundant and most ridiculous station that I have heard of, and yes "It's Not Over."

Dull and pathetic, you say. Yet somehow they keep having solid book after solid book after solid book... and it's only gonna get better with a higher-profile morning show.

I will tell you why. It is because it is the only big stick in the city that play's "oldies" no rimshot station,. 106.7,and 97.1, is much stronger overall, but probably cannot penetrate all the huge highrise building's downtown? I don't know for sure. But B.98.5 is a disaster, they need to make up their [EDIT] mind what they want to become.

I am sick of their theme weekends. It is boring and repetitive.

It helps tremendously if they are considered the only "AC" station in Atlanta. If you look at other AC stations in other cities, they generally tend to be top 5. Ex. WBBQ #2 in Augusta. WMGF #1 in Orlando. WLTW #1 in New York according to the latest Arbitron ratings. I know all of these stations because I've streamed and listened from them from the day when 94.9 Lite fm was gone in 2006. If there were 2 AC stations in Atlanta, B98.5 probably won't be getting as high as a rating as of now. As far as the high profile morning show, the station can enjoy it while it lasts. I'll be finding other radio stations that could at least provide some music variety.

They've dominated the AC niche for about 20 years. The reason why they are the only game in town is because all the competition gave up and went away.

Boring wins. It's a proven radio fact.

Boring definitely is the way to go if you are doing AC.

Not sure if I would make a Hip-Hop station boring ;) but if it's AC, nice, safe and comfortable is the way to go.

There is a simple solution if B98 or any other station bothers one...turn the radio off, or change the channel. Maybe a therapist is needed if something so trivial can upset you so much.

Hey cess, you do sound kinda blunt, but one thing's for sure, I totally agree with everything you say 100% times infinity. That station is pitiful. However, going online and posting your comments won't accomplish anything even if its free speech. And besides, most people don't even care. In this imperfect world we live in, you can't always get the kind of music you want. I guess in your ideal world, you would want to bring back Peach and throw 98.5 to the ground. I feel for you there. So what's the solution? Ignore and not listen to 98.5 and probably encourage your friends to do the same. If you distate the station so much, you would do anything you can to find another radio station that suits your taste. So instead of delivering your free speech and having people tell you to waste money to see a psychologist or a therapist, do something useful with your time. Invite family and friends over and have a nice dinner. Go bowling. Go on mission trips. Enjoy life! And hopefully, someday, the music station that you want will come on the airwaves in Atlanta. And by the way, keep those Cessnas flying.

They did an all-80's weekend in October.

Last month, they did an all-70's weekend. This month, all-80's. I suspect next month, it will be an all-90's weekend. (I am just speculating).

B98.5 was a better AC station when Peach/Lite was giving them pressure on the soft end, leading them to go harder than typical AC.

I don't know if B98.5 really killed their competition or if consolidation led the other AC stations (94Q/Star 94, went CHR in 1992 when CHR Power 99 became alt 99X; Peach/Lite, became The Bull last year; Fox 97, went from "soft hits of the 60s, 70s, and 80s" to oldies in the late 80s; WLTA/Warm 100/99.7, went Power 99 CHR in 1985; and Lite 106, went country Y106 in 1984) to drop the format over the last 25-30 years, leaving B98.5 a winner by default in what will always be a lucrative format--even today with MP3s and satellite.

Also, IIRC, and please keep me honest on this, but wasn't Peach beating B98.5 in the Jacor days?

I'm sorry but: BRENT, you are an idiot. I have seen you make comments like this throughout the board and people keep saying the same thing. If B98 was a disaster, would they be in the top 3 stations in Atlanta AND still have no competition for so long? It is because noone wants to take on even TRYING to compete with B98...
