B98.5: AC with an ATTITUDE

Wow I'm finally coming around and liking the new B98.5 FM more and more! Today I'm driving around and B is playing Cee Lo Green's "Forget You" and they included the lyric "ain't that some shhh? Star 94's version leaves out the shhh. Oooo watch out, B98.5 pushing the AC envelope ... with attitude! My favorite songs from the 80's, 90's and now ... and I can't wait to turn in again tomorrow, which is the future now.

WOW! I noticed TAIO CRUZ on the B98.5 playlist!

BIG CHANGES!!

Hopefully they still keep the Steve Winwood, Kim Wilde, Human League, UB40, Genesis, Go West, Simple Minds, and Donna Lewis...etc. type stuff though.

Looks like the B did a playlist overhaul/update today.

Yeah, for the first time in I'm not sure how long, B98.5 is playing two "currents" back-to-back (using the AC definition of currents i. e. songs less than a year old)

Cagle also added three Lady Gaga songs and brought back a fourth, also two Taylor Swift songs. First-time spins for Katy Perry f/ Snoop Dogg, Adele's new single, and Party in the U.S.A.

Interestingly enough, that makes WSB the only station in Atlanta that plays Party in the U.S.A.

They also have a new TV commercial targeted at soccer moms - seems like they're on a collision course with Star 94

BTW really don't like how B98.5 fades from one song to the next without sweeper/tagline/DJ/etc. - seems boring and lazy, even more so than Q100

Not just that...but B98.5 has switched to the Internet-delivered version of Deliliah...meaning except for a couple of Delilah mandated songs, they are using the local B98.5 playlist for Delilah now. Cee-Lo Green fading into a sappy Delilah love story fading to "California Gurls"...now a possibilty.

This has been a big year for B98.5. A station resistant to change was forced to change.

And can you imagine? A Caller 10 thread gets picked up as one of the rotating headlines on Radio-Info.

Wow, I did.

"Atlanta's 'B98.5' Tweaks the Tunes, Now with 'Attitude': Discussion"

To quote Roddy when I briefly gave Q100 the Caller10/B98.5 treatment (and this was actually before my B98.5 thing): "You ... guys are hijacking this into a serious thread."

So this is their latest TV commercial...

Katy Perry/Firework
Gin Blossoms/Found Out About You
Adele/Rolling In The Deep
The Script/Breakeven

I wonder if they're planning on going Hot AC

Like I said on the AC board, I think what they are doing is where AC will be in 4-5 years - they're just ahead of the curve. More like "fresh" AC, maybe, like WMYI in Greenville (but WMYI is more modern).
