B98.5 breaks the clock

Apparently...here is another sign Bob Neil is on his way out.

B98.5 has started not playing songs according to the "Bob" clock. The "Bob" clock is A-A-B-A-A-C. A is a song before the past years (pre 2004). B is everything past then except for the newest 9 songs (C - the "currents"). Sometimes, B and C switch places.

Why am I bringing this up...this could be a sign the Bob and his AC clocks could be history soon (or the new PD/OM is actually shaking things up a bit). If a listener with very little knowlege of the radio industry and zero knowlege of what goes on inside a radio station's walls can describe the stations clock, then something is wrong.

We can at least be assured that B98.5's playlist will be correct twice a day! ;D

But are there really "regular listeners" who frequently discuss this situation? I've used the same clock for years on the Hot AC station I program, and have yet to hear complaint #1 from anybody inside or outside of the building. Not disputing you...just interested in hearing what the comments are.

....in other news......Obama went to Iraq - could this be a sign that he switching political parties?!

I have to agree with Uriah here. Why are you saying Bob Neil is on his way out? Yes, I realize the Dan Mason rumor surfaced the other day, but outside of that, what is your thinking based on?

Also, people interested in and knowledgeable about radio and music can pretty easily figure out a station's music clock. I used to do that years ago. But outside of radio people, no one is likely to have a clue or even care what a station's rotation is; or even realize a station has a rotation.

My rational is that since Bob Neil carries the CEO title...and that title will probably be going away...that Neil would not take a demotion to just President of the radio division. Neil would have to respond to two upper levels of management, particularly the new CEO of Cox Enterprises, and the person in charge of the Cox Media Group (the TV, newspaper, radio, and internet umbrella). Yes...a CEO has to cater to money-grubbing shareholders, but at least there is no executive management above that level.

CEO's also have a history of bad things (Nardelli and Home Depot and the government bailed out Chrysler). Neil is one of the better CEO's in the world of business. But regardless of whether a person is good or bad, once a person is a CEO, they don't want to go back to answering to management.

Why would that title be going away? (You could be right; I'm just asking.) From what I understand, there will be a CEO of Cox Media, but I would think Neil would still be CEO of Cox Radio.

Just because CXR is going private doesn't mean that its management structure goes away...he can still be el queso grande of Cox Radio.
