B98.5 getting "Fresh"?

2 Things I heard on B98.5 indicate a shift may be underway from the classics to the currents.

1. They are giving away a trip to se Fergie in Las Vegas. The only song they are playing on their playlist from Fergie is the AC friendly "Big Girl's Don't Cry", but the imaging contains the song "Clumsy" (which is being played on the CBS "Fresh" AC stations).

2. A new research tool - they are using some of the webstream stopsets as a music test. They are naming the songs and playing 60 second clips, and inviting people to join the web club to give feedback. (In the past, it was a web club member only invitiation with 15 second clips done blind).

Again, I don't know what is going on...and I am not here to start rumors...and predictions about things have been made over and over like a washer's spin cycle...but it sounds like a more currents intensive "Fresh" B98.5 (without the Fresh name due to licensing issues) may be coming to complement Steve and Vikki.

And would such a move fend off future competition? Is there a certain PPM thing involved?

Sounds to me that they are moving away from soft AOR to hot AC. It also sounds like they may be doing CC a favor, if they ever want to flip the Bull back to Peach.

From the standpoint of blocking competition, B98.5 had all of the bases covered from soft AC (to a limited extent, not as much as the old Peach) to soft AOR, with Kiss picking up the urban side. There is some duplication with River on the AOR end, which this move would eliminate as River loses listeners to Rock100.5 and True Oldies. So Cox has had it covered...but now...

Now it sounds like the soft AC market will be left open...for a return of Peach, perhaps?

What's really interesting is it looks like Cox is going after the market that Lincoln/Star just left. It'll be interesting to see if Star's poor performance was due to the folks at Star, or the failure of hot AC generally in ATL.

They could be the New Fresh B98.5. Or the New B98.5 with more fresh favorites that the whole family can agree on, including the grown folk who keep voting the New B98.5 #1 for the most fresh music while they listen at work!"

Think of the potential of doing promotions with Publix and Kroger! Win a year of produce!

Take that tie in one step further ... "The Fresh Market"!

And if you say, "I love B98.5" to the cashier and she slaps you for being "fresh," you win some Glaze Fresh Scent.

I think Kroger already has a tie-in with KRGR Kroger Radio... :) ...not even Cox can top that.

JAL...get a clue! It's just a promo. Why would Cox change formats when they have no competition.

They've been doing the music test on line for awhile.

I've heard the promo and it's hokey IMHO. It includes not just Fergie's "Clumsy" but "Fergalicious", and with a slight modification of the lyrics the image voice says something like "Can't no other body put it down like Beeeeee" Yeah, sounds like "Soft Rock" to me.

It is definitely going more upbeat. I've heard songs on there recently that I haven't heard in years.

Don't you miss the days when WSB 99FM gave away the Pointiac Fiero's? Was this when it was in it's heyday with Dale O'Brien as the morning drive host?

Not being in the market, and not much has been posted here, obviously, not a lot of B-listeners here, huh?
How does S & V sound these days? Fresher? Calmer? Older? Have they maximized their return, etc?

Wow that gives me an idea. How about "Camomile 94.9: Soft. Light. Relaxing"
