B98.5 may be losing its marbles (again)

http://b985.com/event_guide/whateverweekend.html

I think I saw pigs flying, but I highly doubt it this time. Honestly, if Cox is willing to have a 1,000 playlist full time, I think B98.5 would make a great adult hits station. Keep the current DJ's, keep the chatter down (like they are doing now), keep the B98.5FM name (and not call yourselfs Jack or Bob or Ben), and don't call it "Soft Rock", and it would work.

Given how is starting Cox is starting to change in regards to morning shows (Rick and Bubba in Birmingham, Bubba the Love in Tampa, and with Steve and Vikki here), I wonder if they might (slim chance...but there is a chance) do it musically with the quantity of songs on their (regular) playlist.

I also wonder what is in the water at Bob Neil's house lately.

I certainly like the idea, anyway.

"Atlanta's Best Music," B98.5.

You play three or four Pop/AC cuts an hour and fill in the rest with, well, whatever...

Cast a wide net and prove that adults aren't afraid of music and, given some variety, will show up in droves.

I don't think it would be a wise move at all. Atlanta is already down to only one AC station, and it certainly doesn't need to lose it. If anything, I would think that Atlanta could use another AC competitor to take the place of the old Lite FM. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the Adult Hits format and it would be a great addition to the market, but not at the expense of the only AC in town (which is a much bigger and stronger format niche than Adult Hits).

Cox isn't "testing the waters" for a new full-time format. It's just a weekend. B985's weekend numbers are probably pretty shitty to begin with, so anything to splash in a little extra cume makes sense. Bet the farm you'll never hear any of this format experimentation happening during M-F 9-5 hours. (At least not until PPM is in use full-time)

Hopefully they're not playing oldies. We've already have TrueOldies 106.7 to do just that. From the way their playlist is designed, an oldies song sounds very ridiculous on that station.

I have a few requests:

Detox Mansion - Warren Zevon
Rehab - Amy Winehouse
Alcohol - The Kinks
Red Red Wine - UB40
One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer - John Lee Hooker
I Ain't Drunk, I'm Just Drinking - Albert Collins
Sweet Cherry Wine - Tommy James and The Shondells

I sense a theme. Here's two more:

Spill the Wine - War
Tequila Sunrise - Eagles

And...
Why Don't We Get Drunk (and S****) - Jimmy Buffet
"We could do that, but first, let's get traffic and weather together..."

I'd like to hear KateJordanMcGrayCarthyWhatzMyName intro "Snortin' Whiskey (and drinking cocaine)" - perfect for Sunday morning around 945am. Surely Delilah has it on 45 somewhere.

I'm partial to the George Thorogood version myself - then again, I think a better choice would be, "If You Don't Start Drinking (I'm Gonna Leave)"...

I guess "Six Pack" by Black Flag is right out (but you never can tell with B98.5 with their periodic excursions into "Atlanta's Best Variety of Soft Metal")...and they already have "Margaritaville" on the playlist...and don't forget country crossovers like "Friends in Low Places", "Two Pina Coladas", "It's 5:00 Somewhere", "Pop A Top", etc.

I agree, B98.5 needs to be careful. When you have the whole AC market all to yourself, you don't want to rock the boat too much.

Does someone have the data that shows what other stations listeners of specific stations listen to (e.g., Dave listeners also being big listeners of WABE, etc.). My guess is that B98.5 listeners would also listen to River, Dave, True Oldies, and maybe Kicks.

As the huge B98 fan everyone here knows I am, I usually listen to B98 from 10-3 with Jordan Graye then at 3:00 I cross over to the River and listen to the equally sassy and entertaining Kate McCarthy from 3 - 7 every day. I must admit I prefer Kate a little more than Jordan. She seems like a real spark plug with that sexy Lexy K vibe. Jordan is a littl emore reserved but tends to be more topical and off the cuff in her intro's. Kate does seem a littl emore rehearsed and canned in their presentation.

Speaking of drinking songs,I like to request for the whatever you want to hear weekend:

I Gotta Get Drunk & Whiskey River by Willie Nelson :D

Eeeeeeeasy listenin' - Kingston Trio:

"Scotch and soda, mud in your eye. Baby, do I feel high, oh, me, oh, my. Do I feel high.
Dry martini, jigger of gin. Oh, what a spell you've got me in, oh, my. Do I feel high."
