B98.5 Promo: "Here's What We're Playing After Christmas"

It's official! Heard a promo on B98.5 FM that said (paraphrasing): "B98.5: Here's What We're Playing After Christmas" ... and then they teased me with soft rock snippets including Kelly Clarkson and Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (O.M.D.)! Thanks B98.5, some stations promote what they're playing in the next hour, but you just did weeks in advance.

Didja ever stop to think that stations that play Christmas music expect to have people who normally don't listen to them might tune in just for the Christmas music? And maybe, just maybe, the station might want to encourage those people to continue listening after Christmas is over?

Just a thought you might want to consider.

Yo, Talk Dude. I think you missed the obvious sarcasm. Or maybe I missed your sarcasm?

Such a sarcastic world we live in! :)

I ignore caller10's sarcasm. Actually, I tend to ignore caller10. I didn't so much respond to him as I took the opportunity to make the point that radio stations that play Christmas music should be taking advantage of the opportunity to get new, long term listeners.

Frankly, caller10's sarcasm schtick about 98.5 lost any semblance of humor point a long, long time ago.

Wouldn't a promo for "What we're playing after Christmas" be more effective if other stations were only playing Christmas music? It seems to me like they're trying to compete against themselves. ???

Maybe a promo to keep the 80s listeners from defecting to 106.7 and the AC listeners from defecting to Star 94?

they pick up a lot of new listeners when they flip to Christmas. or at least that's the assumption. the goal is to keep them after dec 26. i think it's a good idea. i heard promos like this last year, but i can't remember what station -- i believe it may have been wmag in nc.

Here's what we're playing after Christmas......

Enough soft rock to put your grandmother to sleep.

We've expanded out playlist from 25 to 26!!!

We've just seen Billboard magazine from March 2010
and will now be working all those new soft rock hits into rotation.

B98.5 did it last year as did other AC's across the country. It's intended to accomplish what Jabba suggested. Based on past history, the Christmas increase carries into the first few months of the new year.

It's just really hard to believe IMO that people aren't already aware of what they play

You know, I was thinking the same thing. Sadly, though, I've talked to way too many people that just do not listen to the radio anymore. The question, really, is how to keep them in if they do tune in for Christmas.
