B98.5 reduces commercial-free time in the mornings

WSB-FM/B98.5 appears to be reducing their commercial free time to 1 hour 38 minutes from the 2 hours they have been doing

The station has abandoned their "Most Music at Work Kickoff", which was 2 hours commercial free at 8:30 AM, snd is going back to the "98 at 9", 98 minutes (1 hour 38 minutes) at 9:00 AM.

A brief history: WLTM/94.9 Lite announced an hour of commercial free music at 8 AM in 2003. B98.5 followed with an hour at 9:00 AM shortly thereafter. A few months later, B98.5 then extended it to 98 minutes at 9:00 AM and dubbed it "98 at 9". In 2004, 94.9 Lite changed it to 2 hours at 8:30 AM. The next week, B98.5 went to 2 hours at 8:30. In January 2005, 94.9 Lite abandons the commercial-free music block.

I am not surprised at all that it is not being abandoned all together. Going so long without commercials during the morning drive (a majority of the block is during that time) had to be putting a dent in the finances of both stations. When 94.9 Lite abandoned it, I thought that B98.5 would follow suit (kind of like what airlines and autombile manufacturers do when one of them increases or decreases prices).

I wonder how long it will be before B98.5 abandons commercial-free mornings?

It could seriously affect them being voted #1 to listen to while you work, though.
