Since I've been in a reminiscent mood lately, I wanted to post some good ol' memories from what I consider some of the BEST (mixed with worst) times of my life (and I'm sure many of you will passionately love this, too).

I wasn't here for The Official 103.9 Party Station Format Debut, but I was here to hear part of the six months of stunting on 103.9 in 1996 before regretfully having to leave Arizona for one more year and returning the next summer to fall in love with the full blown brand New 103.9 in June, 1997!
1996 was back when I used to go to work with my mom for her entire full day work shift just so I could sit in the conference room with a radio and hear 103.9 during the stunting because her office within a high rise downtown building was the only place I could pick it up! I was still too young to know what stunting was, and since this 6 months of nonstop mixshow stunting was very unusual, I just thought it was a normal, operating station (although they were talking about aliens moving in from the desert via a radio station). I do remember when one day in the middle of all the stunting, they sounded like some type of oldies or urban ac slow jam station.... I had no idea what was going on. Then I had to leave Phoenix for one more year (not knowing that my dream of not having to leave again after the following summer vacation would be fulfilled during The Summer or 1997...).

I clearly remember The Power 92 Labor Day Dance Party Weekend 1995, where they counted down the top 250 dance songs of all times, I DID hear a portion of that! I remember that weekend was also when I went to Los Angeles for Labor Day (and this is where I fell deeply in love with all the new electro-freestyle, latin house, west coast booty bass, latin booty bass, and other things I never knew existed, thanks to 99.1 KGGI. Power 106 KPWR, B100.3, Groove Radio 103.1, 102.7 KIIS FM, and others). Then we returned to Phoenix and I heard a bit more of the Power 92 Labor Day Dance Party Weekend before leaving for the airport to catch my dreaded flight to bla bla bla shortly after. This was the same year of the 103.9 stunting I discovered one day while at my moms work office downtown.
Little did I know that these events would mark and become the soundtrack of some of the best days & memories of my life.

Here's an extra from the Y95 days, with “Kelly and Company”, featuring Bruce and co-host Maggie Brock, on Y95. http://airchecked.com/2011/10/23/koy-fm-y95-phoenix-may-92-bruce-kelly/
I can only wonder what memories the kids of today will have from 101.5 Jamz, 104.7 Kiss FM, Power 98.3, Club 95 Latino Vibe, Movin 97.5 / Hot 97.5...etc. I'm sure someone growing up will remember Movin's flip as being as devastating as the whole 103.9 flip was to me! Only difference is that at least Hot 97.5's flip from the Movin format wasn't as drastic as the 103.9 flip was, and there were many more somewhat similar format options available on the dial after the Movin flip than there were for the former 103.9 sound back when 103.9 flipped the first time.
I wonder what today's airchecks will sound like down the road. Will internet station airchecks also be a thing of fascination down the road? What about HD and Satellite Radio airchecks? How would listeners feel if they knew about and found recordings of when they called in to a past station?

Little did I know at the time that those would forever be tattooed in my brain as some of the BEST days in my life. Let me log off and go sit in a room and cry somewhere.
