Back to Blight-FM

Hey, I was exactly right this time!  (And I'll be the first to admit that's NEVER a given!)I predicted that after the All-Christmas-Music month of December fell out of the ratings calculations, 93.3 would hold onto no more than a few-tenths of a point of its great big Fall jump.  And that's exactly what today's new Winter Arbitrons show.  Lite is back down from nearly 5 to about 3.  Back to its logical place as the lowest-rated big signal.  Some were insisting the Fall ratings proved 93.3 was really becoming a player.  The fact remains it's a *Christmas* player, and maybe just a slight thorn for Sunny.  Period.  Clear Channel should stop wasting that prize signal.  They've got lots of formats in other markets (including plenty in the AC realm) that would be much better for Columbus than "the Barry Manilow station".  Can you build a viable franchise on Christmas?Meanwhile, glad to see that Ted-FM sustained its big increase from the last trend.  Of course, with that signal they'll never get too far.  Nabco should put it on 99.7, but of course that's not gonna happen.

Having said that, I notice 93.3 *is* mixing in more upbeat music than before, and seems to have dropped the Lite moniker entirely.  Hopefully this represents just the first baby steps in a major evolution for the station.  Maybe, but I'm not terribly optimistic. As for the Columbus AC scene in general, it's pretty bad when many in-store music services provide an AC mix that is much better than what any of the three local radio AC/Hot AC's have to offer.

From today's Dispatch (speaking of Lite FM)"Radio station merges holidaysWLZT (93.3 FM) is taking its self-proclaimed title as "Official Christmas Music Station" to a new month and celebrating "Cinco de Christmas."Whenever the station plays Feliz Navidad by Jose Feliciano, listeners can call to win the station’s compact disc of Christmas music. All winners will be entered in a drawing for the grand prize — a Cinco de Mayo party taken to the winner’s workplace by morning hosts Dave Starkey and Angela Summers. "

That's looney. "Cinco de Christmas" doesn't even mean anything. The fifth of Christmas? I think whoever thought that up was drinking a fifth of something else. What's coming up? Mother's Christmas Feast Day? Most Memorial Christmas Gifts Day? The Tesh Days of Christmas? Santa Baby, Please Bring Back Our Ratings Day?

;DHow many people made the prediction that eventually someone would switch to year-round Christmas? You better be careful with what you suggest around here, sounds like someone corporate is listening :)(Before someone takes this post seriously, yes I know that no one in radio listens to suggestions from message boards. That was a joke)
