BACKYARD BROADCASTING DIVESTS JACKSON

Personally I'd like to see KLove on 94.7. Too bad EMF isn't still running God's Country on any of its stations - the could have put it on 100.9 to replace KLove. I wonder what/who will LMA 100.9 if KLove does indeed move down to 94.7? Any idea when they might move? Also, has KLove moved to 93.5 in Meridian yet? I thought I still heard it on 98.9 this morning.

K-Love is on 93.5 and 98.9. Since I live in Forest, Sometimes WHJT gets to Forest and overrides K-Love. So on 93.5 we get good Christian music in Forest no matter which direction it is coming from

Hey all -

Just found out the purchase price: $2,000,000 for both stations. $657k in cash, the rest is a note bankrolled by Backyard.

Several years ago June Harris sold WRJH 97.7 for 1.6 million. WRJH was in Brandon and only 6,000 watts. So Backyard only got $2 million for a 97,000 watt AND a 25,000 watt station?

1, EMF is a non-profit entity. I would think that Backyard could count any loss as a tax write off and say it was a donation. 2, radio stations don't exactly make much money these days. They might have gotten more from a commercial company but I doubt it.

Good for EMF. I'm glad to see them growing.

Wow!! Only 2 mil. That just seems insanely low to me, but I'm not a radio man by trade. My favorite Jackson station is Jack 94.7 and my wife's is Rock 93.9, so neither one of us are happy about it. However, one or both of the formats could move to another station, like 105.1.

However, on the WRJH sale, keep in mind that Roberts Broadcasting bought it. They probably paid more than they should to get the station in the first place, judging by how well they've managed their tv station properties here and elsewhere. They're probably just wishing they could have gotten in on this deal.

Wonder how much Miss 103, the tallest, most powerful FM in the state, would go for these days?

I remember to talking to Marshall McGee about 20 years ago when he was GM at MIS, and they were turning and burning. Getting good rates and making piles of money. Boy, how things have changed.

Actually, Roberts acquired 97.7 from the bankruptcy sale when Steve Hegwood lost it. Hegwood's company, On-Top Communications, bought it from June Harris for 1.6 mil. Not sure what Roberts paid for it.

What would happen to 100.9 if Klove moves to 93.9 or 94.7? They could always put on a "Jack" style format or turn it into a rock station. I've got a better idea. switch it to mono, change the call letters to WMDC and get Mal Jones to do the morning show.

I think they should put KLOVE on 93.9 FM, put alternative rock/ active rock on 100.9 FM as 101X, and either keep Jack or bring Top 40 on 94.7 FM if they bring top 40 format back on a 100000 watts signal they should call it Power 94.7, 94.7 AMP Radio, or 94.7 NOW

Wouldn't mind that. However, AMP is a CBS-owned name, so I doubt if any non-CBS can use it (at least, without paying for usage. But then again, Arrow was also a CBS-owned name and it didn't stop then-WTYX from using the name).
