Dave Stout has been named news director for Backyard Broadcasting Indiana (WLBC, WERK, MAX, WHBU, WXFN).

Stout replaces Tom Hammond, who died suddenly earlier this year.

Dave has been associated with group since early 2001, after his early retirement from Ball State University. He worked at Ball State for nearly 34 years, teaching in the telecommunications department. He was later director of conferences and special events.

Stout had worked for Entercom in Indianapolis, in various assignments. For several years, he was the anchor for the East Central Indiana News Hour on WHBU in Anderson.

GOOD LUCK DAVE!!! You will NEED it... getting up at 3:00am EVERY morning! haha

I remember Dave during my Ball State years. He worked parttime at stereo 98 WLHN (now WGNR) in the early 70s. (I still remember those Gary Gears IDs.) Dave, Al Rent, and Morrie Mannies are all Muncie broadcasting icons.

;D One of a few major announcements this week from Muncie... Anyone else heard the other staffing rumors???

Hi there ten_four and thanks for the note! Were you one of my students when I taught T-Com at BSU? In any case, thanks for the nice post.

I guess I need to change my username here, since I no longer DJ!

I can't believe I have been in radio this long, but as they say, "once it gets in your blood..."!

I never had you as a classroom teacher, but would occasionally stop by your office in the old RTV office area to talk radio. Good luck with Backyard.

Is it true Backyard Broadcasting has dropped Indiana Sports broadcasts?

Too bad Letterman and I are not in the same "pay grade," eh? But BSU recently named a new communications building after him.

I'm not sure what the definition of "Indiana Sports" is, but WLBC 104.1 is still the flagship of the Ball State Sports Network (football and basketball). Other stations in the cluster broadcast local sports aggressively, including ESPN Radio 1340 which does local Muncie sports, as well as WHBU 1240 in Anderson which also covers local sports in that area.

It's always fun to talk about radio! Once you get it in your "blood," there is no turning back.

No IU this year...but Notre Dame football has been added to one of the FMs. I forget which one...

Dave-

A little friendly radio broadcasting career advice. I humbly suggest that you do not position yourself as the insider for Backyard Broadcasting here on these boards. If you wait long enough, people will listen and all the questions they have will be answered. Like, "what happened to so an so?" and "is such and such still broadcasting such and such?"

Somewhere in your handbook I am certain that it discusses protected company information. Now, what you view as protected and what your bossed view as protected, can be very different...... so...

again, if it were me, and I wanted to maintain a job, I would stay off here as much as possible.

Thats just me though....

It's a very valid point, thanks!

But since I was just reporting what sports were being covered, and this information is being promoted on air right now, it's hardly a company secret.

Thanks for the feedback.

Did I miss these announcements or are they still quiet?

Just curious what is happening back home.

BYB Indiana does have a new market manager to replace Brett Beshore. I think his name is Bruce Law.

BRUCE LAW mktg mgr and AMY DILLON, back in the market as gsm MUNCIE... Word is it's quite a power team!

I remember Amy... she was the GSM with BYB's competitor, WMDH. She left WMDH to work as SM for Entercom's WNTR (The Track) in Indianapolis. And she's back in Muncie? What happened there? haha

They've had so many changes in sales people there - their clients or
advertisers don't know who's selling for them this week! But they keep
coming in and moving out. Too bad. This really speaks loud about Backyard
biz.

If YOU had to try and get a retailer to part with money by convincing them that Steve Lindell was more interesting to listen to than running tap water, you'd leave, too.
