Backyard sells their properties

Any predictions on a format changes? At any rate, Rock 93.9 is toast. Maybe they could go to all sports. What Jackson really needs is another sports station lol.

I'd give anything to have an Adult Alternative or Americana station with real DJ's. But that will never never happen in a million years. My guess is both stations will be just cookie cutter Ipod's connected to a transmitter.

Maybe 94.7 can get their call letters back. I heard Backyard had parked WTYX at another station. Bring back 94-TYX

this really sucks for the listeners. I guess it's time to move into the 90's and get a cd player in my car...

Jack had better than a 4 share 12 plus last book.I would not mess with it. Plus the best processing in Jackson,PERIOD.

New South needs to stick with Jack on 94.7. There would be too much $$$ left on the table flipping to something else...until two or three years in the future.

If you're Inner City, what urban format availability could be left to fit into that cluster? There is a fandom for progressive hip-hop/R&B and Jackson may be a nice proving ground. Or they could turn it into Jackson's FIFTH sports station. They do have WJNT in that cluster, maybe they simulcast that on FM to give Supertalk some grief.

I can agree that Jack should stay as they are, but I think what happens to them will depend on what happens to Rock 93.9. If Rock changes formats, look for 94.7 to go rock. But should Jack stay, then what do you do with Mix 98.7? They do share a lot of music with Jack. Jack just isn't as soft and as current as Mix.

As for Inner City trying another urban format, what more can they do? Not much than can do. You could have WJNT-FM, but 1180's daytime signal (which matters more for ratings purposes than at night) is far better than 93.9's. And don't even think about Blues 93.9, unless you want to play real blues like 780 did five years ago.

One other question that should be asked: how does Inner City get to own seven radio stations in Jackson? When this is all said and done, 18 stations in this town will be owned by three companies (Inner City's seven, Clear Channel's six and New South's five).

Speaking of 94.7 processing. How long before the new owners get their hands on the knobs and mess it up so it sounds loud and distorted like they did on 96.3 and 101.7. WIIN is also messed up. Signal is ok but the audio is so low you have to turn up the volume just to hear it. Sounds kinda thin also.

I'm guessing WRXW could eventually become WJNT-FM (NewsTalk 93.9?). Unlike WJNT-FM1, 93.9 would be able to broadcast 24 hours a day...and eliminate the need for WJNT-FM1.

All of Backyard's Wisconsin, Iowa, and South Dakota properties are on the block.

The answer... the FCC.

They did it by following the Rules. They can have as many as 4 FMs. That's what they'll have, unless I'm missing something (I don't live in Jackson, anymore, so perhaps I'm forgetting one).

Sounds like they got a great deal on 93.9. Good for them. I would have bought it for that!

Radio world posted a listing this week... that is from that article.

Shame on them. I only knew of the South Dakota ones.

Could Backyard be facing bankruptcy?

According to this, Backyard has properties only in North Dakota, Mississippi (a state Backyard will exit soon), Indiana, Pennsylvania and New York. Apparently, all its Iowa and Wisconsin properties have already been sold.
