Agreed!

Eh... I'm pretty Party'd out at the moment :) Although I will say this: while no major broadcaster will do it, someone does need to bring classical music back to Miami (and not on WLRN-HD2). Say, maybe, someone licenses the soon-to-be-vacant 1700 frequency, puts it in AM stereo and goes classical?

I figure the best thing to do now is push for a new dance station in the market. Some of us over on the Miami board thought maybe WMIB would better serve the area with dance music than what they've got going now. I believe the timeline I suggested was such:

- WPOW reverts to it's past format as a rhythmic/mainstream hybrid to compete more with WHYI than anyone else.
- WEDR and WMIB battle it out, WEDR easily wins.
- WMIB flips to dance.

Not only would that bring dance back to the airwaves of South Florida, but it would also most likely give WPOW a boost in ratings which, in turn, would be the kick in the pants that WHYI has been needing for a while now.

YES - I remember that discussion. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Perhaps the all-new dance-formatted station at 103.5 could have a 'Z' in its call letters so that it could be called 'Z-103.5' and modeled after that Toronto station of the same name that I keep hearing about over and over again as the epitome of dance music.

True competition is almost always the cure for a better product.

OK I'll play along. This is Post # 94 for me, and the '94' refers to ... ah ... let's see here ... '1994' ... the year that I returned to South Florida after a 19-month hiatus caused by Hurricane Andrew.

THE MAJOR

Actually, they BOTH are awful. Thanks for including the once-mighty WHOT.

That'd be cool... though they're not straight dance. What I had in mind is something similar to Energy 92-7&5 (Chicago) with a Miami lean. A little personality radio to mix in with the dance tracks... something the original 92 KTU did years ago. In fact, if you haven't seen it, I wrote up my whole idea of what a dance station should be over on the Dance board. If Clear Channel could follow those simple rules and build Miami's "Z" in those directions, I guarantee it'd be a smash hit.

You know, Charles, I have always had a lot of respect for your opinions on various boards. But, after a few of your posts recently, you're really beginning to slip. To make the claim that WZKL and WHOT are not awful examples of "CHR" radio stations is absurd... those two are horrid. You might look at an abbreviated Mediabase report and think that their playlists don't look so bad, but if you were to look at an hour-by-hour report or actually HEAR the stations live in their markets, you would have a much different opinion.
______________

I have to agree with you on KELZ/San Antonio. They were better as KCJZ(106.7 Jamz).
