Bad decisions about buying good stations

You can probably expect ETM to make more cuts after this thrashing Wall Street doled out:

.

Unlikely that they will do anything that was not already planned. A lot of contracts they got with CBS have to run out... right down to which music scheduling software to use.

As one of the finest executives in radio, Ed Christian of Saga, said this week, this is a whole new era for radio.

They seem to be eliminating the format captain job. Two format captains (VP of Programming) positions have been eliminated in the last few days.

That had been a role favored by CBS, not ETM.

Totally disagree. Bad , small, poorly run Am stations are going to tank. But some of the biggest radio stations in America are AM . It depends on the content. In any business, certain products fail if they are not wanted or needed. AM radio has failed where it is poorly run or irrelevant

The number of AM-only stations which are commercial successful is small and shrinking. In New York, there are no AM stations in the top 1, 6+. In LA, KFI is #5. In Chicago, "The Score" is #7. In SF, KNBR is #3. In Dallas, WBAP is #10.

There have recently been rumors that WSB 750 will split its simulcast with WSBB-FM, and go to what would likely be a less broad appeal format, like sports.

If you look at the revenue charts, it's a bit better for AM - WCBS, WINS, and KFI all show up as top-10 stations in revenue nationally. But I'm not sure that is sustainable, if you don't even have WCBS and WINS in the top 10 in the ratings.
