Bad Dog McCormack

Wow. I heard part of that on the TV news but I didn't get the name. Thanks for posting that. I've known John since he was in his first radio job with me at WMQM in 1979 or 1980. Prayers.

AML is tough. My wife has had many, many AML patients over the years. But, as she points out, often attitude is a major component to a good outcome. And, I think we can all agree that Mr. McCormack is rich in attitude.

Let's all hope the numbers keep looking good.

Great article about him in today's (01/14/2010) Commercial Appeal - I'd link it, but I dont' wanna get in trouble, ya'll know where to find it.

He's still one of the 'Best Of Memphis" overall. Wish him nothing but the best.

He is arguably the greatest Memphis radio personality of the last twenty years, if not of alltime. I hope he gets well soon.

Just saw on FB that John has been admitted back into the hospital with "a full blown relapse". The post goes on to say that "John wanted to keep his promise to be part of the Radiothon and help the kids".

Not good news at all....

I suppose it was back in the early 1990's that Bad Dog had Jack Nicholson's phone number and got Tim Spencer to call Jack Nicholson early, early in the morning in So Cal. Jack hung up on Tim a couple of times before Tim called again and got Jack to do the famous lines from A Few Good Men over the air. Jack kept calling Bad Dog, Mad Dog. Jack said he would "have" Bev. Evidently, Jack didn't know about a certain something about Bev. It was hilarious radio.

I remember that. Probably 91 or 92. It was in the era of all the Rev. Billy C. Wertz stuff and all that. Those were the days of fun Memphis Morning Radio.

There aren't very many of us humans left in radio. I've listened to him since I was in eighth grade. You can hear his trademark laugh from a mile away (not much of an exaggeration). I'll cling to that last bit of hope he pulls through. He's shown a great sense of humor about things. I don't know how he's done it.

Just heard on WMC that he has passed away. A legend is gone, indeed. May we all remember him for the great man he was and for all those that he truly blessed.

I just heard the same thing. I hate that. my condolences to his friends and family. He will be missed by many. Ive listened to him so long I almost feel like I really knew him.

Had the privilege of working with John in early 1978 at WMQM. He actually started as a newsman there, believe it, or not.

Saw him recently on TV and you couldn't have fought leukemia with more positive attitude and class than he had.
His interaction with the kids at the Ronald McDonald House was phenomenal.

RIP John, you will be missed. Your battle and inspiration will never be forgotten!

Sorry to hear .
He was such an ispiration to us all to keep enjoying life no matter what.
You will be sadly missed but certainly not forgoten
RIP

The work Rock 103 does for the McDonald House is great. Bad Dog was a big part of that. I wish we had more stuff like that going on in corporate radio. No one can replace Bad Dog.
