Bad Dog moves to 105.1

As of now, WWBD 95.7 and WGFG 105.1 in Orangeburg are simulcasting. The Bad Dog classic rock format has officially moved over to 105.1 as Bad Dog 105. Get ready Charleston, 95.9 will be hitting the air soon I assume.

According to Radio-Locator, 105.1 (WGFG) has a smaller signal, at 6kw (class A). 95.7 (WWBD) is at 11kw (class C3), and covers more ground south of Orangeburg.

WWBD: http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/finder?sr=Y&s=C&call=WWBD

WGFG: http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/finder?sr=Y&s=C&call=WGFG

When the move is completed and 95.9 is on in Chas, will 105.1 assume the WWBD calls?

Yeah. Once the format is out of the box and a new call sign issued for 95.9, I'm sure Miller will want those calls back.

Out of curiosity...how much is Apex having to pay Miller for WWBD? Any idea what they had to pay NextMedia to move WKZQ? I mean, dropping the coverage area probably isn't free, either. I do know FCC filings say that Apex will pay for all equipment for NextMedia's move to 96.1

When everybody gets paid from this, I can imagine Apex having a huge bill to sign on 95.9...

How will this new "Bad Dog" Classic Rocker differ from the prevailing stale way of handling the classic rock era on, say, a Clear Channel CR like Q104? It would be nice to have a classic rock station that did NOT try convince me that Boston, Styx and Journey were the best rock groups of the 70s 'cause I know better.

So does anyone have any predictions for the "new" 95.9?

I think, not saying that they will, but that they should definately go the Classic Hits/Oldies route. That format always did wonderfully on 102.5, even until they went to full AC....that was likely because Sunny flipped, there was no other AC station, and there was probably even more potential in that format. Oldies was always VERY good on 102.5 until CC messed with it.

I don't really think they will bring back 96Wave, or any rock format. Had they seen potential in that format, I don't think they would have dropped it and when 101.7 signed on, it could have been brought back there.

Any guesses what they will do, or should do?

My first guess is Urban Contemporary mainly cause I think Charleston need some new 'Flava' down here. If that doesn't happens B92 should go Rhythmic Top 40.

My second guess is Soft Rock or some type of easy listening.

Third is Gospel. Yeah, they just dropped the gospel format on 1390AM but it could resurrect on 95.9

As for Oldies WAZS 980AM covers that but who hears them. lol

I agree with the Urban Contemporary format. Z-93 is so tired. B92 should've went Rhythmic from day one. They sure did sound like one when they signed on.

Update: 95.7 has been off the air the last several days or so. The simulcast has been over. From what I understand, 95.7 will sign back on with the Old Skool format and Star on 102.9.

I know Miller applyed for 6kw on 95.7 near Orangeburg to take the place of the old signal but I am not sure weather it was approved since 95.9 would had to have signed off on a short shank and 95.7 would have either been a new station or a move from another frequency and I haven't noticed any of his stations going off the air other than 93.9 and I don't think he would take it from there.

Speaking of 93.9, I was just wondering if anyone had heard what was going to become of the frequency and the format on which it would be running.

Miller is moving 102.9 to 95.7 according to the FCC. The "new" 95.7 will be a full 6kW 100m class A station. Besides that, it almost seems to be a pointless move.
