Bad Joke

Did anyone hear Dean and Rachel tell a joke the other day about a nun who has gonnorhea? I guess a some people called in to complain. Why would they air those calls?

I guess they are feeling good about the cume they must be adding with the Christmas music.

My girlfriend heard it, called to complain and was made fun of (I don't think it aired). They are two of the rudest people I've ever come across in this market. I think Rachel thinks she's untouchable (and in the AGM building, perhaps she is). It's time for that station to freakin' get a clue and become an AC station, not a Kelly Wannabe. The morning numbers aren't there for a station that is supposedly "heritage".

I think you're right... I don't know how far they'll go before anything happens, but I wonder what Year 1 of the New KGFM has done. In demo, I'm sure KGFM is still ahead of The Breeze, but they have to be turning away listeners by doing stuff like this. They'd probably be a good fit on KLLY, or maybe they'll eventually switch to a Hot/Modern AC.

D & R won't be doing Hot AC...I heard Dean pretty much burned more than just the bridges at Buckley, and Rachel is too much of a darling of Fessler/Brandon clan. Country? Hardly see either one of them over at KUZZ, and Dean couldn't hold Ken's headphones at KBKO. If anything changes at 101.5 it will be a new male counterpart, and yet another adjustment to their otherwise crappy music mix. AC is in a tough way right now (see Atlanta)...watch for more erosion in KGFM's 25-54 numbers...and even more in their women numbers if they keep relying on that morning show to lead their way.

Nah, I'm talking about the format.

Maybe a Jack-esque country or a male-oriented country.

Or maybe both.

But, if KGFM does blow... it'll be that direction. And I have a few sneaking suspicions why....

There are so many reasons why your thoughts of KGFM become a "Merle" or a "Hank" are making me laugh.
1) AGM won't give up their one Female demo station.
2) KBKO has proven that its not a hill you have to climb to compete with KUZZ...its a frickin' mountain.
3) The higher-ups at AGM are famous for spreading disinformation within their cluster, sales staff and on the streets regarding format tweaks and changes. You're hearing a smoke screen.
4) No one (except maybe Clear CHannel) flips a format leader...especially one that makes money. KSMJ isn't even making a scratch, let alone a dent in the AC audience, even with KGFM's horrible programming. Heritage counts in this town.
Sorry...I don't see Bakersfield as a three country station market ...

It already is one. KUZZ, KBKO, KCWR. Given the demographic changes in the market, there most definitely is NOT room for a fourth.

KBKO goes spanish. Steve will find some reason to think he can make more money. Come on, the old KKXX had to be doing 10 times better than KBKO.

KCWR could present an interesting option. Now that Buck is no longer with us, I would almost wonder if Mel and the crew would try something different there. I know there's a legacy, but one would think that there is some hole in this town that's not being filled, and it's sure not spanish radio!!!

Maybe not KGFM, but another AGM station, sans Beat if performance dies, will eventually flip to country. I'd say Jug country, since it's a familiar positioner to the locals...

And almost immediately, a 50kw talk station will appear on AM to counter that.

Then another station will swap formats within its cluster to get a better signal. (and consequently coverage past the city limits of Bako)

And that's my new year's wild- ass -guess.

And I'm sure not talking out of my rear either... But you know, if the stars align right. This market could get interesting again.
