i wonder if providence will get a local fm talk station anytime soon? too much bad radio and same topics floating around out there.

First off, what station WOULD be the one to flip format and try it? Doubt a biggie like B101 or Coast would try it.Maybe 99.7?

Citadel would never try it with 99.7, as such as station would provide competition to both of Citadel's Talk stations - WPRO and WSKO. As much as I would like to see an FM Talker that has balanced programming (in other words, not All Conservative All the Time), I doubt it is on Providence's horizon.

I wouldn't be so sure, Scott. Companies can have multiple talk stations that peacefully co-exist in the same market. Here in Philly, Infinity owns 3 talkers - 610 WIP (sports), 1210 WPHT (news/talk) and 94.1 WYSP "Free-FM" (hot talk). All three have niche audiences and do well. But then again, this is a bigger market and Infinity's a bigger company not afraid to spend the dollars.

WYSP "Free FM" still has to prove itself though. The format has only been around for maybe a month? I honestly think the Free FM thing is going to fall apart, but that's just me.

Jeff, your last point sums it up. Citadel is far too conservative (both in the political and non-political sense) to pull off three talkers. By the way, I finally heard Free-FM on a recent trip to Philly; it was more impressive than I imagined.

I too would call for balance on any new station.....the last thing needed is another conservative station or host in this town.

Or the NRA bit that was played this morning. I think that one has been played 500,000 times now.

Although it remains to be seen how the new Free-FM WYSP does...
