BAD SHOW GOES AWAY

All of a sudden the Scott Wilder and Lauren Littner talk disaster is gone from KWRD the Christian station. New hostess Janet Medford sounds pretty good. Where did she come from?

And who's gonna hire Scott Wilder and his girl? Any takers?

Janet Medfferd is the wife of Charley Mefferd..Operations manager for the Salem Radio Network.

More sad news for local radio. Scott and Lauren ALWAYS had a show that was thoughtful, intelligent, and engaging. No one ever prepared more for a radio show than Scott Wilder. I'm sad.

Well, the forthcoming backlash from Citadel's inevitable bankruptcy could result in LOTS of changes that will surely set a new all-time low.

Isn't it kinda strange that it was 35 years ago when KVIL used to play that extended jingle, "It's a shame what's happened to radio/but they can't afford to do it anymore." Seems pretty apropo for TODAY, huh.

Indeed. Wish I had a copy of that jingle myself.

Good riddence to bad radio. This frequency has been wasted on KWRD. A strong signal and good placement on the band and all the programming is targeted towards a niche audience. Looks like all pay for play preachers have run short on the collection plate to keep listeners attention. Or maybe its time for this type of loser format be placed in the circular file cabinet.

Unless something's changed since I last checked, KWRD is running in DOUBLE MONO. That was their solution to get around the hazy, fuzzy, cutting-in-and-out stereo signal (or lack thereof) they cast across the DFW area. For FM talk on a rimshot, it's not that bad of an idea. (And I'd rather see my $1 mil investment [early 2000s] erode to $10,000, than to have a $60 mil investment erode to $6 mil [like all of your DFW full sticks nowadays...that is, IF you can find someone dumb enough to put $6 mil into any radio station now.])

Nah, the pay-for-pray era died with KSKY. KKGM and KHVN still do some of that, but someone didn't bother to tell management to collect your money UP FRONT. That little misunderstanding could have cost Mortenson their entire DFW cluster. Me, I think there's still money to be made with the screaming preachers, as there remains a perception that religious folks still listen to the AM dial.

I'm confused as to how it "died with KSKY" because they used to play southern gossip soul music. KWRD has ran religious based programming for years now. Post KSKY's flip to talk. SO, in my eyes KWRD owns the "FAIL" stamp for spreading "The Word".

KWRD/KSKY PROBLEM - Long time PD David Darling..smiles at you,but watch your back.

KKGM problem- No sales person, no desire to pay a salesperson a GOOD WAGE. An engineer who still there that won't fix major problem ina relatively short period of time say a week. An owner who should not label himself as a Minister, Reverend considering how he disrespects thsoe who work for him. Its all in the blood money that he shills the station for. You ought to see his red silk lined suits and bleached blonded hair..Tilton? Tilton?

I have heard for a lot of guys who have worked with him at various stations that he is a HUGE jerk and if you do not do everything in just a certian way it looses control and can barly function, sounds like to much maintenance for what Salem is trying to do there

Can you point this comment in a direction? Which station are you refferring to?

I am talking about the guy who got fired, thought that was self explanatory since that was what the thread was about

Maybe I missed the last days of KSKY, but for many, many years, they parceled out 15m-30m-1 hour blocks of time to local preachers to spread their gospel, beg for some money, and invite listeners to visit their church. THAT'S the moneymaker I'm speaking of. Yeah, sure, of course, spreading the word can take many a form, but I was talking only about the screaming preachers/pay-for-pray crowd. Apparently KSKY got paid in advance, which was a point missed with its successor KKGM and sister stations KGGR and KHVN. For some reason, a few of those preachers didn't think they were obligated to pay for time once that time had passed.
