Bad Sign For KOOL 101?

Every Tuesday morning, they do a "KOOL Bumper Sticker" promotion, reading the license plate of the owner of a car which was spotted with a "KOOL 101" bumper sticker on it; if the owner calls the station, he or she wins $101. The prize increases $101 each week there is no winner.

According to the station's newsletter that went out this morning, this coming Tuesday's "KOOL Bumper Sticker" prize is $505. That's right - not a single winner of this promotion for the entire month of February. It makes me wonder about their ratings, at least among commuters; either that, or the promotions department who I would guess is responsible for this contest. At any rate, good luck to the big winner! ;D

Wow, weren't stations doing this promotion 25 years ago?
 
The station I was working at a few years back gave away $500 a day for two weeks straight if you showed up to a certain location at a certain time with a bumper sticker. You'd think with that much money on the line it would be like shooting fish in a barrell, but most days you'd get two or three cars and that'd be it.
 
Actually, when I heard the contest this week, the host read a New Hampshire license plate. The host (Jim Reed was/is on vacation) opined the owner of the car must be a vacationer. I guess they're really opening this up to try and get a winner!
 
5 weeks without a winner is no big deal! I've worked in radio and in the course of a 30 year career when ever we did bumper sticker promotions (and this was at a 50,000 watt #1 FM...and also while at a 5000 watt #1 AM, we'd do the contest HOURLY and programming was over joyed with a one out of ten ratio. Remember, there were (are) tons of outlets to listen to.
 
Dan O'Brien gave away the money ($505.00) Tuesday afternoon. The guy (a retired WWII & Korean War vet) was at the office within an hour to get his check. Been a while since it crawled up that high... Gets to $303 or $404 from time to time..although back in '05 I remember it got up to $808. Gotta admit THAT became embarassing...even though sponsors were happy with the "run" on stickers. Coming up with lines like "no winner yet...the last person must've been napping.." gets real OLD after a while !
 
Just thought I'd point out that the Kool Bumper Sticker contest has not gone to $202 since it went to $505. Now that's a "Kool" sign. :)
 
Last week, the jackpot in the Kool 101 bumper sticker game eclipsed the $505 reached at around this time last year. Yep, it hit $606! Thank goodness, somebody won it last Tuesday afternoon, and the jackpot starts anew today.

Pretty interesting that the longest amounts of time the jackpot hasn't been hit happened in January and/or February. Must be a winter thing - or the cars with "Kool" bumper stickers on them are just covered with snow. ::)

I've got a HOT 93.7 bumper sticker circa 2002 on my car along with a bumper sticker for Illusions Dance Club, which is where I help DJ. I should really get a bumper sticker for Country 92.5 too. I'm sure I get strange looks when I have my window down and Country 92.5 cranked up with that HOT 93.7 bumper sticker.
 
Didn't think Hot 93.7 had bumper stickers, would be like to get that bumper sticker. I have one from KISS 95.7 with their old logo the purple KISS and white 95.7 also the old Country 92.5 logo bumper sticker. And none of these are stuck on the car just stuck on the wall.

Ken, contact me privately with your address. I will send one to you. I have a couple more. They sent me a few after I sat in on their morning show in July 2002. I brought cookies for Nancy Barrow's birthday. This was when JD Houston was still doing mornings with her.
 
Not sure if this factored into their abrupt flip to Roxy, but they had to wait until they gave away $404 to a listener last week.
 
Also this past weekend, a much bigger deal: Kool did its annual (and apparently final) "Kool Shopping Spree" promotion (photos posted on their Facebook page). Eerie that they'd be at a station event knowing the station wouldn't be in existence 48 hours later...
 
This post made me dig into my box of old stuff and sure enough, I found a shiny never used WHIM Country 1110AM/94.1FM bumper sticker from the 70's. I don't remember where I got it but I remembered that I had it.

I have one that said "VOTE WHIM! 1110/91.4FM". Yes, you read that right. 91.4FM.
