Bad sound at KHYI

I actually like to listen to this station, but the sound has been terrible again! I am just about done even trying to listen to them! FIX THE DAMN SOUND!

I hear what you mean. The Sound quality is AMish and the high tones crackle and pop.
Sounds like they are running a bad STL.

Do you know who the station is owned by?? That is why it won't get fixed!!! Trust me I know. It's the modern version of WKRP

Yeah, the guru of modern radio, Ken Jones.

If you have a girls' high school volleyball team that would like to be on the air, Ken would be all ears.

Cash preferred.

To that, Ken would say, "Send a donation, and we will get it fixed ... maybe."

Cash.

The studio transmitter link is being modified to incorporate use of broadband. Fine tuning is underway. Thanks for your patience.

"Fine tuning"?

Well, that's just fine ... and dandy ;

i have many ip based stl systems, and none of them have exhibited the sound that is being described. Not a whole lot of fine tuning required if you have the right encoders.

Ken Jones: Audiophile. ;D

Hardly!

This is the same guy that complained to me while working at KTLR-FM

(Quote) Check the CD player. Don't you think the CD Player sounds scratchy?

And the rumble and the roar of the turntables!

Ah, good times, good times. ;D

Uh oh! Did someone get another Barix box for their primary STL? They make nice toys for "oh crap" links because they are cheap, but they aren't very good for real FM broadcasting full-time links, especially music. Fun things like glitches due to packet timing and other stuff cause issues with them, where a Tieline or Comrex similar type of unit won't. Also, mp3 isn't great for music transmission. Mpeg is old. There is better ways to do things these days compression-wise. Of course, the real thing is to use no digital comression in the first place. Cascading digital comression crap on the air makes me cringe!

How much longer are they going to be working on this damn signal? I don't even listen anymore! I refuse to listen until they fix the sound!

Please do not tar and feather me for digging this up... ;D

I was listening to the Rockwall-Heath v Frisco-? h.s. football Friday night driving home from a few days in Arkansas. The constant mic feedback mayhem during the play-by-play was quite humorous, BUT, everytime they cut away for commercials, the sound quality was like it should be. I kept listening to see what would happen when they went back to music and unfortunately it was back to the same over-modulated AM/POTS line garbage. Anyone have any idea why commercials during the game sounded good? I enjoy the music The Range plays but I cannot bear listening to it.

Quoted for truth. ;D
