Bad soundquality Pulse 87 stream

Why is that, that radiostations can't process there livestreams good. Maybe it's to early to moan but the livestream sounds to flat, lots of clipping and distortion. I think they feed this stream directly from the controls board without any soundprocessing between! A little bit more compression would be nice. I hope they fix this.

Speaking of people having issues with the sound quality of Pulse in general. I heard this morning on the new Star & Buckwild show that they were "working" on expanding their signal. Wonder if this will truly improve things for them. Also, I wasn't able to hear the whole show because I leaving for work but they pointed out that at some point during the show that Joel Salkowitz was going to come on for a bit and talk about the direction of the station moving forward etc... Did anyone get a chance to hear that? :)

Not that this particular format is my cup of tea, I did hear the stream for a total of five minutes. It pre-buffered for no more than 4 1/2 minutes.

The stream, like the station, is in its infancy. Remember, Rome was not built in a day... give it time, people!

My motto: do it good, or do it not...

Update: but I think they read this board. It sounds a bit better at the moment, more compression.

The stream has pre-buffered a lot for me too. I hope they get that problem corrected.
Still better than listening to SHOT 97,POWER 1-0-JIVE.ONE,and KTU WHO???

Yes after plus/minus 20 minutes listening to the stream the stream starts buffering. When I reboot the player it works fine for 20 minutes...
Sound a little bit improved since this morning, it's a not so loud and overmodulating anymore but it sounds still a bit to flat.

I will echo DtotheJ here.....

Give it some time! :)

At least we now HAVE an audio stream! Kinks are probably still being worked out with the station as we speak. But for the 8 days Pulse has been on the air, and out of all of the years I have posted on these boards...with the exception of the WCBS flip to "Jack", I have never heard a station being talked about so much. I've definitely NEVER heard one being talked about so positively either (heck...even if I lead in terms of the positive talk! LOL)

Joel was on for five minutes (not sure if he came on after that). He mostly spoke of how when Hot 103/97 first came on there was a hole for this type of music and that its similiar to know.Start made a crack that Joel looks like a 70's coke dealer...all in fun. Joel mentioned that when he programmed Hot 97 people wondered what a Jewish guyi was doing playing music for Puerto Ricans. That was pretty much it.

LOL! I know that's nowhere near "the line" but I wonder if Star does cross it again how Pulse 87 and their four sponsors will respond? (Relax - it's still early... ;D )

I don't see much positive about the station, 3/4's of the posts are about the crappy signal and less than stellar stream...

Let me twist it in this manner with all of the negativities.....

I would THINK that Mega Media Group is an up-and-coming player. Yes, they do productions but for radio this is their only station. They have been around with the Russian format for awhile...but I don't believe that was streamed.

As such, I would HOPE that whatever happens to Pulse 87...they can get a TON LOAD of money out of this. Because if I was in their shoes and sense a big profit, if another company sells off their radio stations or do like GE did with NBC Radio and get out of the industry altogether...that Mega would BUY the frequency...the same way Emmis did it with Hot 103 moving it to 97.1 and 1050 WFAN moving it to 660.

My gut feeling is that these guys are in it for the long haul and are doing the best they can these past 8 days with Pulse. But with the negativities...if you guys don't feel that Pulse, despite the excellent sounding format, can do the job despite its restrictions.....there is always 'KTU. And I'll leave it alone since you all know what they are doing over there.

The stream sucks big time at the moment. Lots of stops/buffering issues. When I restart the player, it works again for a couple of minutes... :-\

It's obvious the Star & Buc Wild show folk aren't crazy about the music... what few songs they play, most are older classic dance or hip hop leaning...

Erwin.

I actually went OFF on my coalition board because, in the words of Star, there is a lot of "hate". I can expect this sort of thing from the rock fans, but not within our own.

Having said that, I say kindly (not just here but on other boards)...don't "bite the hand that feeds us" regarding the stream. The station is only 9 days old as of this writing. There are things that still have to be worked on. But they (Mega Media) ARE working on it! Yeah, the stream can be improved upon, but be grateful that we have a stream! :) Just go back to two weeks ago and look what we had on the radio before Pulse 87 came up....KTU playing "Night Fever" for the 235,255th time on that day.

Mega Media is an up-and-coming industry player regarding radio. I know that dance fans, such as myself, can be impatient...after all, it's been 16 years since we've had a station that actually caters PRIMARILY to current dance. But in this case, all I can ask is to be patient. As it has been said MANY times....Rome wasn't built in a day. And neither will Pulse. But in the weeks to come, things will get better and better. And that's already on top of what I think is something that is damn good already! :)

So please....let's give some time on this. At least, even if it is not on par yet, we have SOMETHING online.

Thank you,

:stands up, applauds and cheers:

Tony,

Thank you. This is going to work. It needs to work and we need to be there to support it. We all bitched and moaned forever that KTU abandoned us. Yes, there are some songs that I'm not crazy about on Pulse, however, this is what we wanted. So we can't get the signal everywhere.... they're streaming online now. Their website is finally up and running. The morning show isn't as loud and explosive as Z-100 and yes the controversy still surrounds Star & Buc but people, ya gotta realize this is different. It's different in a good way!

I'm optimistic and we, as supporters of Tony, Tony's coalition and Pulse have to do just that- support and believe in it!

After one week whe can say that this streaming issues are not solved yet. Lots of rebuffering and hanging streams, so I must restart my player to hear something...for a couple of minutes :-\
The sound quality is also very crappy for 64 kbps streams, it sounds flat, no compression and it sounds like it's comming direct from the mix console in the studio without any soundprocessing between. There are a lot of software based soundprocessors (Omnia A/X or Orban PC1100) for streaming radio available so, technical department from Pulse, take a look at this. Take this not as an offence but as an advice. Streaming radio is important, important as normal FM distribution.
