Bahakel selling Waterloo stations

It might depend on how much money that programming brings in. It is awful stuff, but those preachers probably pay big bucks to be on a 50,000 AM station. KXEL does have a lot of potential.

Perhaps the sale will result in KFMW finally streaming. From what I understand, it is a well regarded station in the world of Active Rock. I do know that Rock 108 has brought a number of major acts to the area in recent years. I think they work with a Chicago promoter to put these shows on.

Re: KXEL, what else can you do w/ 50 kW at night these days? Brokered programming bites, but if it pays the bills and then some,
then you cash the check that comes with the CD of Preacher Peachy Pete.

I really think the era of big 50 kW commercial AMs could be coming to a close in the next 10 years, except maybe in the big markets. Too many spoken word formats news/sports moving to FM. Religion would seem to be what will keep the big ones going
