Baisden Heads To WAZY

Baisden Heads To WAZY
Aug. 28, 2006
By Keith Berman

Dan Baisden takes over the PD chair at Artistic Media Partners top 40 WAZY/Lafayette, Ind., following Dana Marshall's departure to go into artist management.

Baisden was last seen as PD of WQHY/Prestonsburg, Ky. and has also worked at WDOC/Prestonburg and WGTK/Louisville. And should already be looking for another opportunity in the Lafayette area

(OK I made the last part up...but its good advice for Mr. Baisden.)

Can ya tell the guy hasn't heard of AMP before?

Good luck to ya Dan...and in your morning search....and fixing that broken mess!

Excellent advice, johuxm. Oh, how the rest of us know AMP and those poor, soon-to-be suffering people, like Mr. Baisden, do not know what "mess" or hell awaits them. Let's start our bets, now, on just how long Mr. Baisden will remain employed with AMP, before Art gives him his "walking papers." All of us need a gigantic megaphone, which we should use to warn potential "AMP fatalities."

Ladies and gentlemen, place your bets, please.

Ladies and gentlemen, place your bets, please. April 24, 2007

Poor guy. Bet he has no idea what he's getting himself into.

And slightly off-topic, but it really pains me to see whats become of that building on South 18th St. Ya know, a lot of good talent came through those doors over the years. Back in the day, Z96 meant something to Lafayette radio listeners. I remember during the 80s it seemed like WAZY was on EVERYwhere. It just wasnt a hit record if it wasnt on The Z...

You know, Voicetrack, you are getting to the "emotional aspect," for those of us on here. In that same rhelm, you can, unfortunately, say the same thing about AMP's Bloomington property, B97 (WBWB-FM). It is simply a shadow of itself, of what it used to be in the 1980s and 1990s, possibly, with some exceptions. Now, it sounds like an automated "tin can," playing canned IDs, badly segued music, and poorly excuting what little promotions the station does conduct. The station, WAZY, and radio, in general, is in a fairly sad state of affairs.

Yes, B97 was another great station. Similar to WAZY in that they OWNED the market in their hey-day.

Proud to say that I spent time on both stations during the "good 'ole days".

You hit the nail right on the head!

You can tell the people applying for AMP jobs is thin when they have to get someone from Prestonsburg KY! P'burg is the big city of Butcher Hollar. Meaning, that the new guy is looking to get to Indy, or really hasn't done his homework, just trying to see daylight.

What's the deal everyone is talking about with AMP? I'm in Louisville.

If you don't know...AMP is NOT a company to work for...scroll thru some of the other posts....

and as far as bets go, I would say Mr. Baisden has three books at the most. If he does well, Art will gut to save money....if he doesn't do well...he'll be gone the same...or he'll walk to keep his sanity.

Hey look every body! Its another string where every one bashs on amp like a broken record and strokes themselfs to fruition! Im no fan of the amp people but its definately old by now and I think every one does it partly to feel better about themselfs. bank on it!

I think every one does it partly to feel better about themselfs.

Great advice from the guy who thinks Randy Jones is the end-all, be-all in Lafayette radio! ;D

Respectfully, I disagree. I believe the truth should always be said and it would be a shame not to discuss how this man and his company actually operate, especially if by discussing AMP helps to protect any future employees from AMP's "management style."

Hey there I like the Vizzaman to but wish he played a different style music.

I totally agree with you there, donkeypuncher. Bob would great in any format, but can you imagine how good he'd sound on the Oldies station?

Those are the kind of Betty Crocker dreams that run through my head at night, friend!

And by the "oldies station", you guys must mean WIBN in Oxford?

Bob would sound too old on WASK now that they are going with Super Hits of the 60's, 70's, AND 80's.

I love Bob like a red-headed stepdaughter, but can you imagine him back-announcing "Sweet Dreams" by Eurythmics or "Feel Like Makin' Love" by Bad Company or something of that ilk? Maybe when WASK was still Elvis/Supremes/Beatles, etc. "at the sock hop wearing a poodle skirt and driving my GTO", but not now.

The boot-scooting yee-hah NASCAR crowd would burn the city to the ground if Bob wasn't on WKOA (okay, they would get over it in about a week like they do with most of the talent in Lafayette, but I'm just saying...).

Besides, WASK and WKOA are running neck-and-neck with adults during middays and afternoons (as well as mornings with McGarvey-vs-Mark/Annie) in the last couple of ratings books, so it's not like a big strategic move with Bob going to WASK would "save" that station or give it a huge boost that wouldn't end up putting a dent in the OTHER station's numbers somehow.

It;s not like Bob never backsold the Eurythmics; he did on the old WXUS and probably WASK-AM before that. I don't know that him moving down the dial would be a good move, but I think he'd do fine announcing music that he announced when it was new, or just a few years old.
