Bakersfield Country

Probably not an audience for a classic country/new country station playing Bakersfield/West Coast type country music is there?

I have a little of it - Buck Owens, Susan Raye, Tony Booth, etc. that I mix in with my country format.

In itself, it's a niche within a niche.

A colleague gave me some albums for my station, which is the reason I have the litte I do have. But it is good country.

If you are doing a Bakersfield sound then of course Merle Haggard is a part. If you want to go deeper Wynn Stewart. Then of course Bonnie Owens, wife to both Buck and Merle. Rose Maddox and The Maddox Brothers. Joe and Rose Lee Maphis were a big part of the what might just be The West Coast element of Country and Western. However a lot of the performance venues were in Bakersfield. Look up "The Town Hall Party' which was a LA Based TV show and the syndicated version "The Ranch Party". There were as many stars there as on the Opry and there were some Nashville stars who went on those shows as well as the other way round.
