BAKERSFIELD TRENDS?

KISV seems to be distancing themselves from everyone else...
KUZZ continues to slip, but KBKO has not gained..Hmmm.
What do you have to say about the latest trend?
Who is sweating? Who is cashing bonus checks?

Has Art Laboe been completly dropped in Bakersfield?

If so, KKBB should pick up his Sun-Fri show, Laboe would get better numbers then Lisa St Regis whom is VTed from KISQ.

As for everyone else.

Not having Buck around might have hurt KUZZ much like Wendys and KFC when their founders died, but KBKO not gaining indicates Country just doesn't have a stronghold like it used to be. With Bakersfield growing at a rapid pace, it may shed it's redneck image in the next 20 years.

Play should be a challenger even with a stick that only covers the west side. The Fact it ain't tells us some serious adjustments need to be made.

So long Beat, we hardly knew ya. Now the question is, will Spanish make a difference or is Radio starting to meet a Salt Lake/Dallas TX fate in which we have too many sticks?

With PPM coming, should a Rock competitor to KRAB be revisited?

Why would KKBB pick up Art Laboe? Lisa St. Regis has beat him with adults 25-54 in every book except for one. His act is tired.

Buck Owens wasn't doing a radio show, Dave Thomas wasn't flipping burgers at Wendy's and Colonel Sanders wasn't working the drive thru at KFC. KUZZ is still a terrific station and country as a format is significant as ever. What HAS changed is that listeners can hear many of their favorite country artists on more stations that KUZZ or KBKO. KLLY, KGFM, and Breeze are also playing many country crossovers. You don't have to go to KUZZ or KBKO to hear country. KBKO isn't gaining for other reasons than the country format.

PPM won't be in Bakersfield for another 3 to 4 years.

Bianco 500, you write "as for everyone else", then proceed to discuss KUZZ and country music, PLAY, and BEAT and whether spanish will make a difference, then some lame comparison to Dallas and SLC radio. You top it off with PPM. Don't you think "everything else" might include a little more than that? What about KGFM vs Breeze, KERN vs. KNZR, Pirate radio's lackluster performance, KDFO's performance, KISV's dominance, the spanish wars, KLLY's resurgence with 18-34's. Don't waste everyones time with comments about the Beat or comparisons of Buck Owens to Colonel Sanders and Dave Thomas. It's comments like yours that frustrate everyone else and keeps full time radio people from even bothering to participate on this board.

Glad I've managed to tick someone off.

Why would someone pick up Laboe? Sure, MABYE Lisa beat him, but he still has a huge following in various Cali markets that did include Bako, and he could drive up numbers for someone that needs and where his show fits. Wonder if Play should consider it.

Of course Buck wasn't doing a gig on air, but people KNEW him as the owner of KUZZ. He had reconigtion in the community for that in addition to his musical and TV talents. No one can sit there and tell me with him gone that KUZZ isn't feeling impact because of that. And yes, with a growing base of other people(including Latinos , oh my, we didn't think that could happen, did we?) No one is saying a KUZZ is finished, but it will be harder to maintain the present ratings if they do.

I don't know when PPM is specifically coming, but where it has been, Rock stations have seen HUGE numbers. AGM was just a idotic company to run Real Rock(even KISV isn't being run all that great nowadays.)

Think what you want to about "my lame discussions" but there is a logical question as to whenever we've got a bunch of greedy Jack BLEEPs moving in and starting up new signals that may or may not produce anything. Yes, Salt Lake and Dallas are fair comparisons, everyone and his brother moved in, started up, and upgraded signals and the results are ptitiful.

There, I've just wasted more time, and that's what these boards are for anyways, if you work at a Bakersfield station and take great offense to everything I say, may I offer some advice?
