Bako Arbs

How much money did Buck's "measily little company" make off of Clear Channel in Phoenix? Was it $84 million? CC's not the bully in this race. I'm on the sales side in this town and I can tell you plenty of times how Mel and company have tried to strong-arm my clients into staying off of KBKO.

As for the airstaff...take a look at actual Arbitrons my friend. Ken and Barbie had been beating KGFM in their demo for about 3 straight books before they moved to the country station. As for the rest of the staff...I'll put my money on Sammy Cruise over Chris Conner in 2 books, and Karen Garcia is tanking the night show, so the nod goes to Kramer. Two voicetracked shows...making serious moves on KUZZ.

I'm not bashing anyone at KUZZ. Gradowitz is an institution. After 20 years in one market, you HAVE to salute him. Casey McBride is probably the nicest on-air personality in the market. Evan and Chris also deserve their props for longevity at KUZZ. You have to wonder however, if pressure from a competitor is making them a) work harder? b) try new things? c) consider retiring?

KBKO also has a great program director in Logan, and he seems to be making the right moves and keeping KBKO top-of-mind. KUZZ isn't doing thing one differently. I know competitors to KUZZ have come and gone, but unlike the past, because CC is involved, don't look for Buck to be able to buy his way out, or Mel to be able to bully his way to market domination like in the past. While I'll agree with previous statements by Mr. Darnell...time will tell. I'm putting my money on KBKO in this horse race...especially if rumors of Gradowitz retiring soon come to pass.

Go ahead..BIYATCH...bash away...

Helloooo...I didn't call Buck's company measily. The reference was to the previous poster saying they were giving props to Clear Channel for daring to take on KUZZ. Get it? It meant a big company taking on a big company, a fair fight, duh..
I am looking at the Arbs, 3 straight books for KLITE against KGFM? What are you talking about? It never happened. You know why the format changed..

I love how you bash Karen Garcia when you guys hired her in the first place, wonder why she jumped shipped and headed to KUZZ? Mel must have strong-armed her that little meanie weanie.

Speaking of strong-arming, CC sales staff a.k.a the revolving door always uses that excuse when their sales quotas aren't up to par, Mel and company don't need to strong-arm anyone, they are frickin' Bakersfield! You guys come and go.

and about the retirement, Steve says that every year..of course they are ready to retire, they're getting up there in years and Buck pays them BIG market salaries, enough to keep them comfortable until they aren't, and you can't say that for any other company in this town!

p.s. Shempie

Ever think that it's not what you call "Mel's strongarming" that's keeping you from making a sale, maybe its the fact that you're playing on your computer when you should be out peddling? Oh, I forgot you're the sales manager..You said to BIYATCH away..:)

I hear things too, but that is a new one...LOL. Are you referring to the PD, OM or GM? Because the PD and OM are not what I would call a "little man". LOL

I can only hope that your sales staff is not selling numbers but rather results and value of advertising on your station(s) or the next time your numbers go down you won't have any story to tell. I know of several stations in markets MUCH larger than Bakersfield that won't allow their AE's to take the numbers on the street. As a retailer I could care less that you beat your competitor, what I care about is will you put bodies into my store that will buy something, otherwise even if I pay a dollar a spot on your station it's too much! I'm sure you will agree that while numbers do play a part in the success of a marketing campaign they do not guarantee that success and he/she that sells by the numbers dies by the numbers. I would be very concerned that an AE would be telling a client their station is better because they gained a point on that competitor in the most recent Arbitron.
