Just heard from a friend inside the "7-acre Buckley Broadcasting Complex" that KLLY is losing its afternoon guy Chris Nelson and that he's leaving town. That leaves a prime opening there. ALSO...isn't he married to LaRae at KBKO? Does that mean a change on the KBKO show? Ken has been a fixture in the Clear Channel building for a while...will he fly solo? Will CC find another "Barbie"? He's been the cornerstone on KBKO since it started...I don't think the station can stand yet another change (3 PDs, losing Karen Garcia to KUZZ...) I really hope they keep him...he's very active in local charities and is pretty funny.

Any ideas on KLLY's replacement strategy?
 
I think this is a much bigger deal for KBKO. Ken and LaRae are everything to that station. What are they going to do? I saw All Access is looking for a new partner for Ken.

Kenn is going to need a well known female partner if LaRae leaves. Possibly they need to take Casey McBride from KUZZ or Rachael Leagan from KGFM ,but they are market veterans and would probably require a hefty salary.
Maybe even move Anne Kelley over from the FOX. Or they could grab the woman Chris works with in the afternoon Melissa to put on with Kenn.So there are SEVERAL options Poor Clear Channel. Gosh I feel so sorry for them, I really like KBKO especially the new way they are backselling every song.
Too bad for KLLY, When they lose Jamie, Stench and other guy, they were supposed to move Chris and Melissa to mornings.
 
I like some of those ideas. I don't know if Melissa from KLLY is the best pick. A lot of women I know think she's kind of annoying.

Anne Kelly would be very interesting. I think she's entertaining enough, but could she pull off country? She's a radio vet, and has a lot of recognition in the market.

I wonder how Rachel likes her new format. If that station starts falling with their new moves, maybe she would jump ship and join Kenn. That might be a good pick. I don't know if they know each other at all.

What if they picked a guy? Their midday guy? Another guy in the market? What if they had two guys like KUZZ?

I think what makes it work with Ken and LaRae is their chemistry. It will be tough to replace that, but with a talented jock, it can work again and again. I don't think it has to be someone local. The names bandied about are nice, but can you really see Anne Kelly or Rachel talking Nascar? Selling the Rodeo? The biggest issue in this town is the mentality that only people who already are in the market are choices. Ken's not from here originally. I think Ken's a pro, and he'll pick a partner that's perfect from him. He's a PD. He knows what will work. He picked LaRae.
 
Good point. I agree, it does not have to be someone local. In fact, that may be best. I just think from a promoting standpoint, everyone knows Gradowitz and Jeff Emery, it just may help to have a team that everyone else knows too.

I agree, too, that Ken is a pro and a hard worker. I have heard nothing but a good reputation about him.

KBKO UPDATE

My sales manager said he heard Ken on the air saying they have someone coming from out of town for an audition Monday morning. Isn't Friday LaRae's last day? Not sitting back and waiting I guess. Someone named Heather is what the SM said.
 
Chris and Larea are moving to St. George, Utah. Where they will be taking over the morning show of an ALTERNATIVE (?) station 94.3 The Planet. www.943theplanet.com<P ID="edit"><FONT class="small">Edited by underpants on 03/08/06 12:53 AM.</FONT></P>
