Baldwin Out at WROW due to...Budget Cuts?? Other News..

According to his quote in the TU this am. I'm surprised. I've been listening to Baldwin and Mr. John Garb since they came aboard. He actually bought something to the station...A reason to listen. I personally liked him because he wasn't all politics.

As far as the $$ goes, I'm sure there are quite a few people over there at the Almighty ALBANY BROADCASTING making a sh** load more than Mr. Baldwin was. I don't know how much he was making, nor do I care..But really, budget cuts? He had a successful PM drive show, he had to have bought in $$ from advertisers, etc..I hope the boys at CC snap him up and he stays in the area..

In other news...A birdie tells me that a morning show is being looked at by a major market. Will this be a syndication or a buh bye!!??

Reporter! Several of us knew about this but we have stopped posting to the board thanks to crass comments and personal threats from other posters. Let's just say that Johnny hasn't been wrong yet, and I know when Mark Williams hears about this he'll be in the streets dancing!
 
Why does WROW even bother any more? WGDJ has the local talk covered. 590AM should become an Air America affilate. It would save money and with the right promotion has to do better. It would have a niche audience of people sick to death of Fatso, Seanny and the other right wing cloneheads. It would be super to tune into a station that recognizes we have a thinking, caring man in the White House now.

    I dont have any idea who you are nor do i know what you should or shouldnt know about commercial radio and its machinations both local and national,  but from that quote Im going to have to believe that you know ZILCH.......Define "successful"  His trends have made a steady decline since the shows inception ending with last week's ".7" number.   In other words good ole sherm would be lucky if his relatives and closest friends were listening. 
    Secondly, and just as important, what do you think drives the money a show makes for a station...Its based on ratings....no ratings no money.....also realize that a good deal of the commercials you hear on the once mighty 590 are "added value" runs, as in "hey advertiser  spend a good chunk of change with B95 and fly92 (for example) and we will throw in air on errrrrrr 590?(when you read that say it to yourself in a sheepish voice  thats what the sales reps do)
    Ive read other posts youve made....you dont strike me as an idiot, quite the contrary..is it just a case of not being able to take off your rose colored "sherm" glasses?

Looks like you have access. How does that .7 (I assume 12+) compare to Williams' and to Lynch the year before that? How does it compare to Lynch today? (I won't even ask about WGY, no doubt far ahead of the big 590 for all three of the mentioned hosts)

I'm a former radio jock. I do know that ratings brings in $$...etc..I do know the business side of radio. I do not know Sherman Baldwin personally. Just spoken to him a few times over the phone. Rose colored glasses was a good one..

Mr. G! - I'm used to people bashing what I post. Hilarious. I wish Sherman and John well..
 
The fact that Sherman is gone is no huge loss to ABC or WROW. His show was a childish attempt at credible talk. Mark Williams, although a bit coarse, was at least tough enough to hold his own unlike Baldwin's back slapping good buddy approach to his guests. The man giggling with him and his partner was an embarassment. He is probably very good on an oldies format which is where he should return to. The question is not why he was fired, but why someone who demonstrated no management skills or programming knowledge was hired by the genius at ABC.

As far as ratings go, anyone with any knowledge knows you don't tout them here or on the air, which both Baldwin and his co host aren't clear on. But think of it this way, the over all 12 plus (which don't mean anything bla bla) have steadily declined. So one has to conclude that the syndication programs aren't losing (especially Beck) so how could the local show be gaining so much and the station still losing? Please boys, stop it. You tried, it failed, move on, we have.
 
I could try to explain the math and the moving pieces, but it seems clear that you really don't have any interest in knowing the truth - what you seem most interested in is bashing someone you disagree with, and saying whatever you think regardless of it's accuracy to support your position.

And really? Nobody ever touts being the number #1 rated show?? Really? You're going to explain ratings to me now are you? HA!

Regarding Mark Williams -- he was/is a hate monger who had neither ratings, nor revenue, so if you were a fan, then you are surely in a diminishing circle of angry fringe right wing talk supporters who think Beck and Limbaugh are gifts to mankind. The beauty of this country is that you are free to make those choices, but you surely don't speak for the many many thousands of supporters who found Baldwin's friendliness a nice change from the scapegoating far right wackos who have traditionally bullied the airwaves - in which case-- you haven't moved on, and likely never will.
 
remember this, 4% is not an overwhelming majority
& TEA Parties were all over the place due to disgust.

The Left(overs) are in trouble & are scurrying like
cats burying their scat on tin roofs now!

Sherman Baldwin deserves to return to Berkshire county.
 
Williams has talent. Baldwin is a hack. Neither flourished at ABC. Who is the PD now? Will they turn to Tom Rigotti again to fill the void?
 
Sherman Baldwin did have some good ideas on an alternative approach to talk radio, regardless of whether one agrees with them. He tried to do something a bit different and it didn't work as far as revenue, but that is in the middle of a horrid recession.
Baldwin should try this again when the economy gets better and see where it leads.
 
Right...so what station is scooping him up?? Afterall, talent like his doesn't hit the market often...with ratings as high as he said, he should be on the air by now at the competitors. Or is he working on padding his resume?

Fair point... It might be that the Baldwin theory could have been applied more successfully with a different talent. Having said that, talk radio needs to attract a new audience that starves for the format, but a more odernized version.

I rarely heard Williams, but he seems to have an act too similar to too many other tough-guy-behind-the-mic hosts trying to emulate Savage. The fact is, Savage is original and independent, most others are not. There is room on the radio dial for all types of opinions, but talent and execution is paramount as well. Both hosts will take this into account on their next gigs.
 
If Baldwin does go to WBRK in Pittsfield; he will give the Vox-Cluster
a run for its money. Vox is really bad !!
 
Even though the building is sad for the fellow coworkers cut, another rumor has hit the building today. is Tad Baldwin really Sherman Baldwin? looks like Tad was alledgedly pounding out license plates for a while. we are floored. can this be true? google this yourself. morrell can sure pick em. i guess people can change their ways. un-f***in' believable. wowwee. i can see Curly from the 3 stooges spinning on the floor on this one.
 
Looks like you're on to something--somehow related to the Michael Skakel case, but it doesn't go into too much detail.
