Bally Sports RSNs Will Be Rebranded as FanDuel TV Pending Court Approval

Edited to add: The change takes effect tomorrow (10/21).

I read that a few days ago only thing that changes is just the color from red to blue and graphics as well and maybe some FanDuel shows pop up on the local RSN.

They really should just pull the plug already. New clothing on a corpse won’t bring it back to life.

The on-screen scoreboard and crawl will probably change, too, to include more betting-related information. Right now, Bally just shows scores and a few details about each game (high scorers/rebounders in basketball, goals/saves in hockey). Although in states where sports betting hasn't been legalized, there will be no legal way for viewers to use that info.

I just updated the app on my cellular telephone. The only offering Ballys or FanDuel SW had was Dallas Wings basketball, which I guess that all the have the rights to these days. I just went ahead and deleted the app. No longer serves any purpose in the D/FW area.

Aaaaaand that’s where you’re wrong. Watching the Frozen Frenzy (thing the NHL does where all 32 teams play on same day) right now and I’m noticing the scoreboard has not changed at all, “Roaring to Go” is still the theme, and practically nothing is new on the network, aside from very noticeable FanDuel branding..

Me too. I installed the app to watch my favorite DFW teams play, but after all the places the teams were going (Stars to Victory+, Mavs to Tegna, Rangers to maybe MLB-owned broadcasts) and the Spurs being the only team left, I followed suit.

Ah ha. I was scrambling around Facebook looking for the Bally Sports North dissection of the Minnesota Wild NHL Game. Finally found it rebranded as FanDuel. That took all of no time at all.

It's still early days for the new branding deal, so I wouldn't call what we're looking at now the final version quite yet. But yes, the transition was not drastic on any of the games I watched last night. I did catch a mention of some sort of teaser bet (of the in-game variety) from FanDuel on one of the telecasts, though, coming out of a commercial break. It was read by the play-by-play announcer before play resumed. If those drop-in come-ons are going to proliferate, I can definitely see more odds/spread/over-under info added to the graphics at some point.

BTW, as enthusiastic a supporter of legalized gambling as I am, in-game betting is something I'd advise even casual gamblers to avoid. When you can wager on pretty much every event that happens within a game while the game is in progress, that's the equivalent of crack to a junkie. That $10 you blow by picking the wrong winner before the game started can balloon into hundreds lost if you start chasing the loss by trying to predict who'll score the next touchdown or whether the game will end on an adjusted point total every five minutes. I wouldn't mind if permissible wagers were to be scaled back by amending existing gambling laws, but I doubt that will happen. Instead, we'll wind up with a subculture of sports-betting junkies putting money on the next pitch, next pass or next basket for hours on end. Ugh.
