They would finished 41-32-9 record and a tied with the Washington Capitals who finished 40-31-11 record. The Wings would end up missing the playoffs for an 8th straight season and Capitals has to face the President trophy winner, New York Rangers in the first round but they would end up got swept in 4 games.
