Baltimore: The City That Alternative Forgot

You know what? Honestly, who really gives a crap? I read most of the posts on this thread and unless it's affecting your job income who gives a crap what's playing on what frequency. This is a very small thing in life to actually care about. Find good music and give it a rest. End of discussion.

Poor Baltimore.. I once had many ties and visits to "Balamer", and WHFS was amazing.
I actually felt they had better choices in FM listening than Chicago back in the 80's.
Chicago never had an alternative rock station anything like WHFS.
Chicago had good college stations but it was amazing to me that Baltimore had a sucessful commercial alt rock FM.

Sure could go for a big grocery bag of steamed hot blue crabs caked in Old Bay about now.

What is the station at Towson State University like these days? It, too had a good alternative format.

Baltimore has always been a place with "alternative" people, since it's not a gaigantic market, and has its very own personality.
It would be too bad if the radio in Baltimore did not reflect the weird streak and personality of the city.

Is Club Charles still in business?

Who gives a crap? Well if you can read, and apparently you or someone sitting next to you can, then you'll see that I do. Find some good music? Really? Like what? Music in a language I dont speak? Fake southern accented caterwalling about your wife banging your buddy...or your tractor? Rhymes with stolen beats and samples about who owns what corner and has the best 20 rocks? Soothing seduction music to get your wife undressed by a co-worker? Just what IS good music? And where is it broadcast? If you dont like people opinions what the F are you doing trolling forums? Go listen to your "GOOD music". Some people speak out about what they believe.

There's always CDs. There's much more to life than radio stations you know.

Alternative is a dying format right now.

That's complete nonsense! Where exactly is Alternative a "dying" format, Los Angeles? San Diego? Philadelphia?

Alternative is indeed not a 'dying format', since KROQ ranked fifth in the nation in billing in 2009, down from #1 in 2008, according to BIA.

N/T WTOP-FM ranked second in the nation in billing in 2009, trailing only KIIS-FM/Los Angeles.

You're exactly right Alternative is far from dead. HFS is now on 94.7 HD2 and streaming and it sounds better than it has for years. But it deserves to be on a MAIN FM signal not hidden on a sub channel. This is all about CBS's deal with Ibiquity and the attempt to force 'HD' down our throats. Unless Ibiquity resolves lots of problems this platform will never gain ground. But Alternative has,and will, survived thru everything short sighted suits can do to it.
