BAMA JAM to charge radio stations? WTF?

I heard a rumor that Bama Jam is expecting radio stations that come down to broadcast their event a parking fee of $75. Anyone else heard this? I got a call in to verify and the chick on the phone was rude and then hung up on me. WTF?

An associate provided a copy of the email regarding Media space.

Ridiculous is my first thought. If I were in charge of a radio station...we wouldn't be attending.

Below:

The media plan we have implemented for BamaJam 2010 is as follows:

1. 10X10 space to set up your own tent

2. You must be self sufficient. (ie. Power not provided)

3. No vehicles, no large display items. (Tent, banner, table and chairs are permitted.)

4. $75.00 fee for space.

If anyone wishes to request larger space with option to display vehicles or large display items, they will fall under the regular merchandise vending charges and availability. Vending charges for this area is $125.00 per linear foot. (10X10 area= $1250.00)

Please notify me as quickly as possible of your intentions and requests.

Thank you,

Michelle S. Strickland

Talk about "biting the hand that feeds them". The gall! I know one station that will NOT be attending.

Blazin' 92.1?

No one should go anyway, if you guys think that it makes a difference if your stations are there or not are still old school in the mind. People could give two shizes about us and all of our Ron Jock wisdoms being at a concert, they just want to see Porter and Dolly and use the shirts as paint rags.

I think the image of being at this type of event is well worth the cost. You tie in a client to cover the cost of the space and make your station visible to ten of thousands for a small fee. What's the problem?

agree

it was a bad decision in my opinion.....I know it changed our mind about going......we gave them too much free publicity to have this sprung on us at the last minute......my personal opinion

It could be 30,000 people, again, so what? There is no benefit to the station. Ohhh I saw Ron Radio and he gave me a dixie cup with a logo, let me go and write that down in the diary.. Joe Smoe has forgotten about you by the time the first wanker is on stage introing the band. That's the mindset that is killing the business...

Hopefully everybody will adopt this ASCAP/BMI mentality and then
we can pay everybody for promoting their product.

Hell maybe AE's & Air Talent can kick in a few bucks out of their wallet
to help pay the clients for the remotes we do.

Right Stewy?

it's gonna be a hard pill for some of you guys to swallow. They just don't care about the local stations that helped them get off the ground. They don't need you anymore... and to think you thought you all were big buddies. They played your egos just like Charlie Daniels plays a fiddle. And to think they even convinced you that you needed to play music from those "artists" they represented. Sad...sad..sad.

No zuzu, the $75 should come from the station/clusters promotional budget along with a little money (cash for gas and food/WATER) for the person(s) manning the booth. This keeps from tying up remote time/equipment and cutting into station revenues for the weekend. Staff will be there whether the station is there "officially" or not so might as well press some flesh with smiley faces and have your name in front of folks. Survey period is still on going, wonder how many books will be there wandering around? Total out of pocket cost to the station should be less than the cost of one billboard.

Several of you are complaining about the monster that you helped to create growing bigger that what you can control .....if your expectations were different then you didn't approach the situation realistically from the beginning. This does not excuse the event/monster for forgetting who helped them get to this point AND this attitude may hurt them in the future but, the fact of a chance to be with a huge crowd during a survey period (or outside of survey) does not change. You're best to ride this giant horse even with your bruised ego right now because all creatures come to an end eventually, even monsters that you help create. One of this years artists had a song out years ago, "I'm No Angel" and the lyrics fit this situation pretty well....." yeah I might steal your diamonds but I'll bring you back some gold".

Just My Very Humble Opinion, maybe I'll see some of you out there.

The whole event was a clusterf*ck for us last year! The security guards didn't know where the radio stations where supposed to park. So we ended up on some dirt road. Apparently it was Ronnie's private dirt road. When Ronnie's giant Escalade got stuck behind our RV, he proceeded to dog-cuss Misty in-front of a crowd.

Thanks Ronnie! Glad we promoted your event NON-STOP for 4 weeks so you could call Misty a b*tch.

BamaJam as an event: awesome

People who run it: flaming ****** bags

BTW: Hope all those who attend will enjoy Ronnie (slammed up drunk) singing karaoke again while pushing Country Crossings. Man that's good stuff!

Ronnie can start paying us for paying his lame recording artists! There goes BamaJam records. Kiss my ass Ronnie.

What sflaboy said.

I will not pay to promote anyone's event. We are not going. phuck 'em

I'm boycotting the whole damn thing. You won't see one of my jocks there.... not ONE. We have better things to do right here in our own community. Whoever said that it's worth the small fee to be exposed to that kind of crowd is an idiot. I can see maybe the Dothan stations being there, but not anyone else. It's a waste of time and resources period. Let Ronnie get drunk and trash the government all he wants, it won 't stop the hundreds of cops from doing checkpoints after the event.

Why are you bitching about $75 and BAMAJAM? All you radio gurus have been paying $750 plus for many years to put up a tent at the P-Nut Festival with alot less advertising dollars being spent on your stations? If you dont know how to generate money from the event ...YOU BETTER CAAAAALLL SOMEBODY!!!
