band coupling

to people who have set up optimod 8400s: does anyone use the band coupling settings in your house presets? i have noticed that virtually all of the presets have 30% coupling of the bass AGC to the master AGC, 30% coupling between bands 3 and 4, and 100% coupling of the 4th and 5th band! Does anyone keep these as-is?

I use coupling... Sometimes more, sometimes less than factory settings. Less coupling can sound better on some program material, but then it often sounds worse on other material. I find that some coupling helps preserve naturalness and keeps the mix more compact.

Interestingly, with other processors such as DSPX I use much less coupling, if any at all. I guess it all depends on the design...

Thank you! I've decided to try taking the Phase Rotator out of the mix on our 8400 to clean up the high end. I have been running the Gregg preset with the multiband release time slowed way down. After a trip over to Birmingham I noticed that most stations there have a more 'nautural' HF sound than we do...so I'll give this a go and see what happens.
