While driving to LA for damage restoration, I was on the beach road out of Port Arthur (Hiway 82) and on 103.7, KVIL was clobbering KIOL (whose tower is just 30 miles northwest of Port Arthur!).....flipping around the band, came across a station with Jamming Olides....Sounded good so I listened while driving.......HUH??? LAREDO??? Sure enough, around 11am got an ID...
KQUR 94.9....WOW!! Not bad...they lasted until about noon...
but on the drive back, a station out of Corpus was on 93.1 booming in stereo (though the audio on 94.9 was better....hell Jammings was better than most local stations in audio...but then thats Clear Channel in the area....)

I was trying to listen to KBBT this morrning up here near Austin when driving in my town near Austin, KTJM was bluring in clear as can be, I then checked out my antenna at home that was pointed to San antonio, it was picking up KBBT, but I was hearing KTJM over the top of it every now and then, that also lasted till around noontime. I also got KQUR clear as a bell & KBNL was fighting over KTSW on my outside antenna. My home radio also stoped on KIOX and was clear enough to light up RDS and said " XO 96.9" I didnt know KIOX had rds untill then. KMKS came in clear as a bell also. Been kind of a wild day today for this late in the season. I think the morrning show on KQUR is simulcast the same one that is in San antonio's KTFM 94.1. Thats a good morrning show.

Does anyone think the excessive tropical storm count this year and late season tropo. ducting could be related?

I believe that it could. The Gulf is two to five degrees warmer than average this year and could aid the tropo conditions along the coast. We also had a longer warmer summer than usual this year which would lead to the increased tropo we have had. If the warmer Gulf waters are a factor, could be some good openings until next Spring when it heats up again.

Off the topic, but I would not be surprised to see a tropical storm or hurricane pop up in December this year. Don't know if that has ever happened before. Heard on the news this am that a new record was set with the formation of TS Alpha, number 22.
