Bandana's Barbeque promo on 106.5

Interesting conditions this morning. Tropo perhaps?

I heard a promo for 'Bandana's Barbeque' on 106.5, which pushed out Oswego NY's (waaaay on my western fringe) K-Rock, for just a few moments. I was in the car, doing chores at the time, so no time to play. However when I got home, I see that there's a string of 'Bandana's' through MO and IA, along with others in NC, MI, etc. At any rate, I've no clue, as to what I've bagged, but needless to say, conditions appear to be interesting!

Happy hunting!

According to the real-time DX site there isn't any activity about 50 MHz so I'm really curious whether you had meteor scatter or can there be a very quick e-opening that is only there for a minute or so? How far can an FM station be heard via airplane scatter? Most of the Bandana's BBQ locations are near St. Louis according to their website http://www.bandanasbbq.com/location_list.php with a few in IL and IA so I'm pretty sure you had WARH on 106.5 promoting them.

Real time DX site with maps:

I use that site, but it's best to click on "50 MHz" for better info, as few hams use the 70. It's been very useful to detect e-skip, F2, Tropo, TEP, etc.

There *was* heavy meteor scatter activity this morning. Down here in FL, the bursts do not last very long, and I have not been able to ID many stations; I now use Total Recorder ( www.totalrecorder.com ) and it's a lot easier than it was, the last 20 years!

This site was recommended to me for Meteor Scatter---see upper left box:

That may have been 106.5 the Arch from St. Louis. They did a similar promo last November.

Yes, while doing further searching, there certainly seems to be a connection between the two. I'm listening to The Arch on-line now (as I mark endless piles of assignments...), to hear if I catch something similar to what I heard this morning.

Thanks for the insight folks!

And if you're ever in St. Louis....by all means, check out Bandana's. Good place, good service, reasonable prices, and excellent barbecue. There's a location right next door to the Airport Marriott. When I stay there, Bandana's is a no-brainer....even given that the hotel has a good restaurant onsite.

OK...now you're making me hungry! :D

BTW, the on-line stream for The Arch appears to differ from the OTA broadcast, as there seems to be a fair amount of web (.com) specific ads, etc. There are a number of streaming stations, which differ in this way, which makes it a wee bit more challenging for DXing the OTA broadcasts!

Yes, I've noticed that going to the stream doesn't always produce the desired outcome. Then there's the matter of live sporting events and other syndicated content that local stations may not be permitted to stream.

It seems many stations in the US especially resell their ad time on the stream so separate ads play, usually PSAs and web ads. I think this is to help pay for streaming royalties. I find the online stream ads to be quite annoying and prefer to listen to a station OTA if I can, not to mention the audio quality is much better.
