Bandit 105.5

Can anyone tell me what became of Bandit 105.5 in Stockholm, later Wow-FM? I can't seem to find a website for them.

Wow...very cool (bandit, hundra fem komma fem, bast rock, just nu :?)

Bandit 105.5 died on the 1st day of 1999. They started off the year playing 1999 from Prince repetitively for weeks.

Bandit 105.5 started as a sort of free form Indie music station if I recall and later morphed into a "new music" station that was rock leaning. I recall them playing stuff from Ash and Manic Street Preachers when no one else dared to touch it. They also broke Save Tonight from ? ???? (what was his name - Neneh Cherry's brother).

The station later became WOW FM which was a rock leaning Hot AC which in my opinion sucked.

If you google the station, you'll probably still find the logo (and the hate sites when they went more mainstream). At one time, they had English DJ's on it.

Bandit 105.5 was my first real full time introduction to online streaming from other countries. I used to listen day and night over a dial up modem, as high speed wasn't yet available. Bandit was that station that brought me over to online radio...and I've never gone back.

I later found Energy Radio Hamburg Germany. The song that locked me on that was Faithless - God is a DJ and Sash - Mysterious Times. Faithless stands today as one of my favourite dance songs of all time. In another spooky note, something drove me to turn it on about 2 hours ago (first time in years). Just as I was typing this, God is a DJ came on.

Die Hits !

Where are they now? I have no idea what happened to 105.5 on the dial. I'm sure something must be on at that frequency. If you find out, or anyone knows, post. I owe my passion for online radio to that crappy little stream that came over my modem in my P166.

Ah, the good old days.

and oh man, I'd forgot this logo, but "The Rock Home of Stockholm". The last link is a 10 year anniversary party. And I was wrong, it was earlier than 1997 when I started listening.

Sweden was always a country on the cutting edge of technology. I can recall asking a certain PD of Edge 102 why they didn't stream audio. The response was akin to "nothing more than a fad and a waste of money. It wouldn't improve the station at all". heh. On a side note, that station now offers online streaming and viewing of their studios down at the Eatons Centre.
