Bangor stations FINALLY on DIRECTV...but, someone is missing!!

WLBZ-2 (NBC), WVII-7 (ABC), WFVX-22 (Fox) and WMEB-12 (PBS) are finally on DIRECTV, but WABI-5 (CBS) is conspicuously absent. WHY? Will Steve Hiltz answer the question on WVOM 103.9 on Thursday morning??? And also on DIRECTV's website they also list as a local channel TFT at channel 431. Can anyone fill me in on this?

Soooooo, Bangor market enters the 21st century!

I think a very similar thing happened in Portland with WMTW. I don't think DirecTV (or was it Dish) carried it at first.

I noticed that too, no WABI on DirecTV..But they are on along with the other Bangor channels WLBZ, WVII, WFVX and MPBN) on Dish network~!

sounds like a little dispute (something WABI is not new to, I think when TW bought out Adelphia they had issue as well, and one other time where WABI was dropped entirely for a day and replaced by WGME)

i'm thinking the dispute is over carrying WABI's DT2 station (DISH doesn't carry it, then again they don't carry alot of DT2's. Unsure about Directv's stance on the subchannels)

WABI DT2 is the CW, so that may be the source of some sort of dispute. And yes, I remember well that TimeWarner almost dropped WABI TV5 and CW last year during a similar dispute. Sounds like legal mumbo-jumbo,...not my expertise..but will be interested to see what turns up.

Ayuh, I remember the TV5/TW dispute also. Yes, Mainedude, I was thinking in the back of my mind that maybe it was because of the CW and perhaps Directv saying no about them. I know WABI thinks the CW is the greatest, but seriously the ONLY original programming is the news at 10, M-F. Sure they simulcast the news at noon and rebroadcast the 6:00 a.m. news at 7 a.m., but I can surely see Directv's side of saying no, if that's the case.

And rocjoc, yeah I could go with Dish Network, but, here's my situation. I live in the boonies and would like to have high speed internet to go along with that satellite. Directv offers it, while Dish doesn't. I have to do something before the 2/2009 switchover. I have a real decent Radio Shack outdoor antenna and can receive all the analog signals from Bangor exceptionally well (except Fox 22 and WBGR). But when hooking up the converter box, I can get WABI and MPBN. WVII and WLBZ are nowhere to be found.

I don't know how fast Fairpoint will get here to offer me the service "I deserve". ;)

Checking the WABI TV website station news tonight, (Sunday, Aug.17) I see an announcement that they have come to an agreement with DirecTV, and they are now available along with their CW network. I confirmed it by going to the DirecTV website and checking programming. I added my zip code, and sure enough, they are on now on the list, along with the afore-mentioned Bangor stations.
