Bankrupt WVKO-AM signs off until the fall

Yes, The zoning was passed.... Now, Can WVKO make it on the air before May 4, 2007, the one year anniversary of the station going silent and avoid losing the station license?? I'm told by some engineers they may have to apply for a S.T.A. at that new site in order to get the station on as soon as possible.

According to Mr. Gregory J. Lestini, Esq., Legislative Analyst, for the Columbus City Council,
"We passed a zoning last night allowing installation of a tower for the company that now owns the WVKO frequency." This was from a email addressed to me last Tuesday, September 12, 2006.

I'm not all that familiar with the engineering and construction end of the radio business, but it appears WVKO AM has a lot of work to complete in a little more than seven months. Do they still have a studio and equipment?

Thanks for the information.

If they don't slack off and put their nsoe to the grindstone, from construction of the tower, to delivery, install, laying of ground system install and tuning of the ATU and everything.. WVKO could be in full operational mode in about 3 months.. so yes, they could do it.

EVen if they don't.. I bet they'll file for another STA.

They should not be able to get a STA under then commissions latest policies, but since the engineering is mostly done, (small change from where they wanted to be, they should not have a problem), plus the FCC normally bends a lot of the rules for stations trying to stay on the ar

Columbus CIty Council approved a zoning variance request Sept. 11 that moves WVKO (1580 AM) one step close to returning to the airwaves from a new home in Northland.

The station's owner and Columbus Urban Growth Corp. finalized a lease agreement for the nine-acre site at 2708 Morse Road the next day, Sept 12.

Urban Growth owns the Morse Road property that WVKO hopes to move its operation to some time this fall.

Looks like the construction permit is updated and approved for the new location as of friday 9/22. now how long till they can get the towers up?

I apologize if I came off as a wise ass or rude.. but that time frame I mentioned applies to ANYONE building new towers and getting on the air, not just permits...

Its all about heritage. For many years this station was the only one in Central Ohio which programmed to the African-American audience. There is a lot of support around here to keep the call sign alive and the station on the air, especially among those who grew up listening to it.

Ummm...latest story on the street-

SALEM is in talks to grab the stick and cary Conservative News Talk on it.

Hmmmm....wonder whats happening
