Barix Client Streaming Software

Had been using the harris Client Streaming Software which supposedly would go to the next IP if the old IP dropped. Never worked.

Now I have downloaded the new barix Client streaming software and can't find that it works any better.

To add a measure of reliability I ahve two streams which duplicate the same programming. When I place either stream in the #1 position and drop that stream at the encode the barix will sit there and sometimes reset.

other times it will require a trip to the site (hours away) to reset the barix.

Any ideas on making this switch urls as it is supposed to? Any tips?

Is it the exstreamer giving you the problem? I have an exstreamer that was giving me problems that required a reset. I put the power supply on a relay of my Sine System remote where I could reset it remotly. Turned off Sonic IP and it works fine if I need a reset.

I am wondering if I need to do the same.

Do you turn off the sonic ip because it will announce it on the air or are there other reasons?

I don't want it announcing the IP on the air. Since it is behind a router, it gives a 192.168 address, however I just don't want it going out on the air. The DSL has a sticky address and the Exstreamer is in the DMZ of the router so I know how to get into it remotely if I need to.

I have some in the DMZ mode (newer routers like the 2 Wire) and so far they have stayed there. Some routers have a time (old linksys) keeping them as a computer in the DMZ mode.

I heard that sometimes the resets are related to the power supply. Have you replaced the power supply with a larger one and has this helped? Some places I don't have a remote with spare closures.

Interesting...

I work for Barix and have HUNDREDS of happy customers who use that feature successfully in the SC firmware every day. I also have used it many, many times.

Please email me: [email protected] and we'll get you squared away.

My problems are on my provider, Bellsouth. Especally after first getting our DSL line installed, it took it a few days to settle down and give us the 1.5 Meg we paid for. That and trying to explain to the people at the studio that if they do anything to the router there, the FM will go off the air! I have another Instreamer out in Los Angeles streaming back to Kentucky and I have never had any problems with it, it is my internet service on my Exstreamer side.

Installing the client software on the Exstreamers made them much more stable.

Some of the Instreamer and Exstreamer 100 units came with 9 volt DC power supply. Some of these supplies put out too low a voltage for the units to run reliably. These should be replaced with a 12 volt AC one. If you have one of the old supplies, you can contact Brenda at Barix USA ([email protected]) and she will arrange to send you a new one. The units will actually run on anything from 12-24 vac or 12-30 vdc.

By the way, the green light blinks for a reason on the Exstreamer. The nu,mber of dark cycles tewlls you which of the 3 connections its on. I also recommend changing a few parameters to make things work better. If you are NOT inputting a back-up stream, put the Stream Check Limit and Check Period limit both at 1 second. Set the buffer at no more then 2 seconds. If you are running more then one Streaming URL, then the Stream Check Linit should be on 2 seconds and the Check Period Limit on 10 seconds. The Buffer still should be set at no more then 4 seconds.

Thanks for the info, Dana. I'll try it tomorrow since it looks like I'll be making a visit to the site.
