Barix instreamer 100 randomly going to firmware update mode

I have a barix instreamer 100 box that will randomly go to firmware update mode, which is a small problem as we're using it for STL on an AM station. logging into the unit and clicking reboot at the firmware update prompt gets it back up for 1-30 days, whatever it feels like.

Any ideas? It's been in service for a couple (few) ? years now with no issues until about a month ago, and just today started really acting weird.

I have an Exstreamer 500 that was doing the exact same thing. After trying everything else I could think of, I realized I had not enabled password protection for the config and update settings. I did that and it has worked fine ever since.

Cool...looks like my Barix guru is gonna learn something new today. ;D

See if it is a 9 volt wall wart as opposed to the 12 volt that was supplied to anyone with a 9 volt. Cured many such problems. I have 50 in service now.

was just a bad instreamer unit, was very apparent when I swapped a spare in, didn't realize the audio from that one had gotten so bad. I thought we had a modulator tube starting to fail....

it was a 12v wall wart, which is newer than the unit in question because of the problems with the 9v adapters.

New instreamer has been running for 3 days now on the same adapter without issue.

Modulator tube...what's that? ;D

Have a station I just started taking care of that has a Raytheon RA-1000 as a backup box. I haven't had the guts to light it up yet.

Had one of those at WNOP 740 Newport,KY nearly 40 years ago. The thing looked more like a furnace with extensive metering than a transmitter. But it did nothing but run...and heat the room in the winter.

Paoli Indiana had one a few years back. I took time to light it up and it ran. Wonderful to return to a post WW2 era transmitter for fun.

Barixes will sometimes go into bootloader mode all by themselves. You can sometimes fix them by doing a serial rescue. However, sometimes they lock into bootloader mode and if this happens they are now doorstops-as the IP audio module has gone bad.

I've seen this about a dozen times in my extensive experience with Barix.

One more thing-I'd be wary of any Barix beta firmware. Some of it has memory leakage and can screw up over time. As an example, I am using their new IP intercom firmware on an Annunicom in PCM mode-and every 5-6 weeks the audio gets 'glitchy'. Power cycling the units fixes the problem-for another 5-6 weeks. What I do is simply power cycle them every month and that pro-actively fixes the problem.

It used to be frustrating to know this stuff, yet not be allowed to tell your friends and colleagues about it.

Thanks for all the help everyone, I have played around with the failed device, updated firmware etc, its still acting the same, I just say its failed, I dont trust it anymore. to the trash heap it goes.

Unfortunately I have 5 in the same mode. Company is not helpful at all on these, one came new this way.
