Barix Instreamer

I need to replace the stream encoder for an internet station. The current streamer is a old Dell running NT4, and is having trouble rebooting at times. I'm looking for a one box solution and would be great not to have to include a monitor, operating system and harddrive in the mix.

Barix Instreamer 100 looks like it could replace the current encoder. Any one using it for their stream. Any other solutions to an inexpensive one box solutions with few moving parts (no Hardrive) below $400.

I use a Barix on a web stream and it works fine. In it's lowest quality encoding choice (you have to pick from five as I recall) it streams at 56KBs. It sounds pretty good. The down side is it has no way to post song titles along with the stream. Charlie Davie in the UK has a piece of software that can address that problem It used to be 10 GB Pounds, but I think it is free these days. Just Google him.

Got the Barix Box put in place of the 10 year old Del Box and it sounds very good. This Station was started by a community Group on Vashon Island that wanted a LPFM. Since Vashon is just less than 5 miles from Seattle it’s a tough battle. But the Internet stream has let them do Something. Most Programming is in 15min pre-recorded segments so it’s tough integrating a play list. But at least it sounds a whole lot better. Very easy to set up.
Give it a Listen. We use serverroom.us for the Stream provider.

You can listen to Voice of Vashon here http://voiceofvashon.serverroom.us:4256/listen.pls

Website is www.voiceofvashon.org

Thats interesting because there have been no drop outs on my end or the server log. Could be the server does not like your IP or range of IP's. Seen that happen on my other production server. Sometimes the software that defends against port scanning will ban a group of IP's becasue it misreads the request.

If any one else can't listen to the stream let me know.

Thanks

We use a Barix Instreamer for twit.am. Rock solid. I never even have to reboot it. Only time it got restarted was when we had a power failure a few months ago.
