Barix Stream

I have set up a stream using an Instreamer 100 that we plan to demo at NAB (it's a way for customers to hear the stuff). I'm sending BTRP and HTTP. The number of streams is limited (I only have about 460K upload capability on my DSL). I'm especially interested in how the processing sounds (yes, it's DSP processed) and how well the BRTP stream works on port 80 (there are obvious advantages using this port-like routers don't need port forwarding). The streams are MP3 and VBR running an average of 112kbps.

The music will change from time to time...

Here are the addresses:

brtp://208.127.134.34:80

http://208.127.134.34/xstream

The addresses you give take me to a log-in screen wanting a id and password. This looks like a screen for someone who wants to change the configuration of the Barix device, not to listen to it.

Couldn't open BRTP with Winamp - what app should be used? HTTP stream opened OK in Winamp.

Was also able to listen to the second stream by copy/pasting URL into Winamp (is that a good or bad thing?). Listened a little bit, didn't want to hog your bandwidth. Sounds fine on the big JBLs with the Winamp EQ set to flat.

Yep, that's the way to listen. You do need a program like Winamp. If you click on the link you get to the Instreamer pages. By clicking cancel, you can look at the pages, but not change them.

sounds good.will the current Barix line do PCM on both the encoder and decoder? Any chance of getting AAC later on?
Would prefer that or PCM as a choice for primary STL.With the Barix 1000 i could go right into the AES on the Omnia 6EX.

The new Barix 1000 Units will do PCM bi-directionally. They also will have AES/EBU inputs and outputs. These and a T1 line will be all you need for an STL (no more overpriced Intraplex "interface" equipment).

looking at using the power station 5 on each end with the 1000's.see any problem with that set up?PCM mode.Like i said in my other post we're dealing with a short 1500 foot distance.clear line of sight.

It should work just fine....

You may want to include ADPCM such as apt-X on your preferred list. It is uniquely cascadable with the advantage over Linear PCM, of 4:1 compression.

It also has inherent error concealment in that its lack of framing means that dropouts are so short as to be virtually inaudible.

So please don't forget Enhanced apt-X, both in our hardware and other's, for high quality, excellent cascadability, and as many as 4 stereo feeds on a T1. We do offer MPEG too when higher compression ratios are required.

La Guy, is there psycho-acoustic error concealment on these products, or simply FEC or packet re-transmission schemes?

Mr.Taylor maybe you and Barix could get together, that would be a great feature.Just looking for a much more cost effective way of getting this done without having to spend $5800.00( 2 units)..The Barix 1000 price is under a grand making it very cost effective.I will make sure there is a return policy ,if it doesn't perform to my expectations.

I have dropped the quality of the stream to 96K average to see how much the quality changes. To my ears it still generally sounds good, except that I can hear artifacts once in a while now.

I am not sure what type of PCM error correction/concealment the Exstreamer 1000 has. I've emailed the design engineers in Switzerland to find out. By the way, the Exstreamer 1000s will list at around $950.00 each. BUT they will have the 4 relay closures and the balanced inputs and outputs. They will also be able to be re-configured as encoders or decoders on the fly.

la guy, check on the enhanced apt-x when you contact Barix.that would be a great feature.Alot of broadcasters are looking at something cost effective, like Omnia did with the hot selling Omnia One...THEY GOTTA ER DONE....
