Barker's last day on "The Price is Right".

Went off with a bang! After 50 years on TV, Bob Barker has hung up his trademark microphone. That mike will go to The Smithsonian. Here are the games that were played today:
1. Lucky Seven (Won)
2. Plinko (Won-Just $1500)
3. Range Game (Also Won)
4. Double Prices-A.K.A The Right Price (Won)
5. Grocery Game (Lost)
6. Any Number-which was coincidentally the first game played when it was debuted in 1972 (Lost-The player wearing the Hi, Bob blue T-Shirt only won a measley $7.31. Bummer)

Thanks for the memories, Bob. TPIR will go on without you.

And the showcase went out with a bang too.

<<SPOILER ALERT>>>

Showcase 1 included a Lincoln Navigator. Top winner (who won the Corvette on Lucky 7) passed to the runner-up. He bid $61000. Was off by around $7000

Showcase 2 included a Mediterranean cruise and a Cadillac STS convertible. Top Winner bid $84,000 and some change, was off by around $5300. She won over $140,000 for the day.

Both were incredibly good bids for such high-dollar showcases.

Bob's finale repeats tonight at 8:00ET/7:00CT prior to the Daytime Emmy Awards.

Bob Barker WAS the "Price is Right" for 2 generations of TV viewers. I, like most people, grew up watching the show on TV. When I was in grade school and on summer break, I made it a point to watch it almost every day. Bob was one of those very rare individuals that found something that he was good at and stayed with it for 50 years. You just don't find that nowadays. Much has been written about Barker and the show recently, and one of the more unique things about Bob was that he still carried a corded microphone after all other shows had long since gone to wireless mics. But, it just wouldn't have been Bob without the cord dragging across the stage. And it just won't be the "Price Is Right" without Bob Barker. We will miss him.

For those out west, CBS is re-running today's last show in it's first hour of primetime.

Even though the last "Price" has aired for this television season, according to a
article from the "New York Daily News" recently, there is a possibility that Bob
Barker may return for a few more shows if CBS does not pick his successor in
the next few weeks, i think the network wants to be wise in selecting a host that
will appeal to everyone, and among the three finalists, George Hamilton, Mark
Stennes, and Todd Newton, i'm hoping Fremantle North America will choose
Todd Newton because he has done "The Price Is Right" shows in Las Vegas &
Atlantic City, and the reviews have been favorable, but whoever they choose,
it will be interesting to see if the ratings will hold, and i've been concerned
if they don't, we may see the end of a era soon when no network will have a
daytime game show.

The showcase winner also won $1000 on the Big Wheel.

I was hoping contestant Kristen would get to the showcase. She was a cutie. ;D

Although CBS/Fremantle hasn't announced Bob's successor, I am betting that they have, indeed, chosen someone and are merely waiting a week or two to announce it. Give Barker his due, let him enjoy the tributes, then they will announce it.

Youre right..Bob Barker is one of a kind, and WAS that show. However since they are not really looking at any known celebs why not turn the on camera work over to announcer Rich Fields! Sharp looking younger guy who Bob really likes personally (not always the case with former TPIR announcer) and here's a guy who has game show chops, camera presence and KNOWS the games as well as Bob. he would be a left "Field" choice for CBS/Freemantle, but would be a wise one

ok...let's just say Rich Fields IS chosen as the new host.

Who do we choose for the new announcer??

Some choices:

-Johnny Gilbert (Jeopardy announcer and now 82 years old)

-John Harlan (semi-retired, according to Wikipedia)

-Bob Hilton (filled in following Johnny Olson's death)

-Rich Jeffries (subbed on TPIR following Johnny Olson's death)

-Charlie O'Donnell (longtime Wheel of Fortune announcer...75 years old)

-Burton Richardson (TPIR fill-n announcer and announced the Doug Davidson-hosted syndicated edition...probably best known as announcer on the syndicated Arsenioooooooooo Hall Show)

-Shadoe Stevens (already in-house at CBS announcing for Late Late Show w/Craig Ferguson; former Hollywood Squares announcer; radio announcer)

-Charlie Tuna

-Randy West (according to Wikipedia, is announcer on the TPIR stage version)

-Don Pardo (employed at NBC...and 89 years old!!)

Anyone else??

I think We'll let America vote on who will take over Bob as the next host of The Price is Right. I don't think George Hamilton is not a good choice, and you can forget about Rosie because she has been a has been. but I think these guys will become the next TPIR host.
1. Todd Newton (My Personal Favorite, and a very classy gentleman-He HAS experience)
2. Rich Fields (TPIR's PA Announcer-He's very groomed because He's a puppet-a person whose ready to step up and take over)
3. Mark Steines (E.T. Co-Anchor)
4. Alan Haff (A long shot-And A Huge TPIR Fan)
Anyway, I wish CBS will have a contest-over at its website to determine who will be filling Bob's Shoes. Bob happens to be a true TV legend-just like Johnny Carson. We all watched Bob since he hosted another very popular show-Truth or Consequences. He has been very classy, and the TV World will be missing him.

I have a feeling the ratings and research will play a factor into who is picked as the next host. After all, it's summer and they have several months to "test" each potential host to see how the reaction is. If you think about it, they have until Fall sweeps.

While Bob Barker did say he would return if no replacement is found. I think Bob should do the first show
with his replacement to help ease the transition.

Speaking of Bob's slender, corded microphone, does anybody have any idea what make and model mic(s) he's used? I still remember the chrome-plated mic with the steel mesh windscreen. I've been wondering about that lately.

I think CBS & FreMantle Media N.A. needs to listen to the audience FIRST before they CAN make up their own minds. I believe Bob might come back only during the sweeps and the first days of the show's 36th season. In the meantime, they'll doing some testing on all 3 candidates-to determine which one would be more comfortable doing the show with the audience AND the viewers who are watching at home.

For the record: It was a Cadillac XLR that comes standard with a convertible hard top. It's built on the Corvette platform but, where the Corvette is a $45k base, the XLR is a $70k base. The STS is a sedan and not available as a convertible. (Sorry, the XLR's one of my favorite cars)

Honestly, I felt a bit empty on this show. The prizes were great, yes, and the fact that 5 of the 6 contestants won made it a great TPIR as well. But, I was hoping Bob would've gone out like Carson. His 50th anniversary show left MUCH to be desired and, if this is the last time we'll permantly see him on television, I wanted it to be more intimate. Or, at least if they didn't do it that way on the regular air time, then they should've done it at the prime-time airing. But, they didn't and, I heard this is the way Bob wanted to go out. If it was really his wish, then I'm glad he got to do it, as Sinatra sang "his way".

In some ways I hope they don't listen to the audience because of the push to get Rosie O'Donnell to be considered. :(

State your source...where is this phantom "push" coming from?

Has it been in any newspaper or entertainment industry magazine of late (aside from the one-time Variety - or Hollywood Reporter, which ever - mention several months ago...which, actually, batted down the theory) or does it exist only in the fevered imaginations of the nutjobs at redstate.org or littlegreenfootballs (who also seem to believe every story about liberals attempting to turn your kid into a secular islamist homosexual and, also, that Hillary Clinton is a lesbian, but that she had Vince Foster killed to cover up their affair)?

Jesus, Rosie is *not* going to host the Price Is Right.

And, seriously, spend a little less time listening to talk radio and a little more time in real world where the rest of live who don't believe in every conspiracy theory that comes down the pike.

Push? You want push? Here you go.

LOS ANGELES, California -- Bob Barker endorsed his friend Rosie O'Donnell as a possible successor on "The Price Is Right," although the newly retired host isn't sure CBS wants a woman to take over the game show.

The one factor I'm not hearing here is CBS. Les Moonves is "in love" with Dave Price. Not literally, of course. Price was an early consideration for the show. However, inside sources have indicated that Price's audition was probably the worst of them all. Still, Moonves is pushing to get his fair haired boy into the gig. IMHO a "Price" with Price would be disasterous.
