Barnes is promoting morning show on My Space

I just got an e-mail to my myspace.com account from Barnes promoting the morning show on Dave FM. He said it was a cheap ploy but what the hell.

Maybe it's just me because I have a teenage daughter, but I can't think of myspace.com as anything other than a place for pimple-faced pubescent teens and pre-teens. Honestly, I think it's just a bit weird when 30+ year-old djs are on that site promoting themselves. But hey... that's my opinion. That and $4.50 will buy you a venti at Starbucks.

In fairness to Barnes, MySpace has proven to be a huge marketing tool for anyone in the entertainment industry.

Every band, dj, radio station, and bar in this town has a myspace page. Considering the fact that roughly 80 million people are on it and News Corp. decided that it was worth $500 million to buy it. Next to Google, it gets the most hits of anything on the web. I know that everyone on here likes to slam Barnes (actually, everyone on here like to slam everybody), but at least he's being proactive about his livelyhood and his show and doing what he can to try and get people to listen. Good for him...

I thought the slams were left only for GST.

Sorry X-14, but you're simply out of touch. MySpace says that teens only make up for one quarter of their total users, and it is actually Yahoo.com that is first on the web with site visits daily. Not Google.

I saw the same article... amazing.

MySpace has grown astronomically since its launch in January 2004 and is now second in the United States among all Web sites by total page views, behind only Yahoo Inc., according to comScore Media Metrix. The site currently has some 87 million users, about a quarter registered as minors, according to the company.

Barnes could promote his show on the Goodyear Blimp as it floated high over Buckhead for the next year and it wouldn't do any good, because he isn't.

Barnes is the best promoter, networker and hustler that I've ever met in any line of work. When his time is up with Dave - and it's gotta be in discussion mode behind closed doors - he'd be a brilliant agent, manager or promotions person. He's the most driven person I've ever met. It's a good asset in morning radio, but not the most important however, as the ARBs indicate.

Barnes is just bad, and has such a bad reputation. It seems no one likes working with him or around him. The PD at DAVE must have a thing for him, because no one else in Atlanta does. The morning show has got to be on it's way out, one can hope. I did tune it briefly this morning just to see if anything had changed but no still bad, Barnsey couldn't even make it through a segment without tripping over several words. Not to mention content-Sucks-

The let him go promote something, anything... just get him off radio

I dont know what happened to Barnes. 12 years ago the morning x inspired me to get into radio (yippie, good move) and Barnes was a large part of that. They were creative. Jimmy was a dork that was funny and Leslie, well she was there to. The chemistry they had when they were on top was unbelievable. 6 years ago I left town to work in Charlotte and they were still going strong. Today it seems like he is the most hated person in Atlanta radio. Can anyone break down for me where or how it all went wrong for that kid? Just curious.

I don't think anyone here has enough time. ;)

O&A is making alot of PD's happy with numbers that are triple that of Diamond Dave's. O&A would do the same for DAVE.

myspace is FREE promotion. any PD is always a fan of that. call it a cheap ploy if you want but hey, it works.

If you asked him - and he's keenly aware of his industry rep - he'd say it never 'went wrong.' His is an interesting personality. I think it occurred to him as he was climbing markets that it was more natural for him to bulldoze through walls than to open doors. He's a large, menacing guy with a natural scowl, so he intuitively realized that he'd never charm the PD or GM. So, it became a winning mechanism to play better offense than defense. Constantly battering you with insight. He wore me down when we worked together, even though he was always true to his word and worked very hard at what he did. He's always thinking two moves ahead with every 'favor' he does for you and he'll never do anything for anyone without calculating the potential return. And talk about 'No i in team'. He used to ask me how much commission salesman X at 99x was making off Sprint and then go nuts wondering why it didnt go to him, since he was doing the remotes and endorsements.

People like that are interesting to have around at first but eventually, every last molecule of oxygen is burned away and you start avoiding their phone calls like the plague.

That said, he does have admirable qualities and I hope he finds something he's good at.

Let's make it easy... the guy got "Star-itis!" He started to believe that he was more important than he actually was... Everyone around him was blowing smoke up his ass, and he started to believe he was a rock star. When in fact, he was JUST a guy on the radio. He acted like he was above everyone else, and treated people accordingly. He went to events and ACTUALLY denied people his autograph. I know, because I saw it.
I think he's a solid guy, but he got caught up in being at the right place, at the right time. Would the "Morning X" be a factor right now? Probably not... I feel for him some. Cause I think he was a very good jock when he was doing afternoons at X, but like my father used to say, "Don't act like you're the sh*t, cause you're only a sheet of toilet paper away from being wiped away for good!"

Speaking as Dave's listener, I like Barnes. I cannot stand Holly Frufru. How can a newsreader pronounce Muhammed al Ababa perfectly, and stumble over John Smoltz, or Sonny Perdue? ???
