'Barney' & 'Angelina Ballerina' Back In Business

Mattel Inc’s preschool entertainment arm HiT Entertainment and 9 Story Media Group are joining to relaunch Barney & Friends and Angelina Ballerina, two well-known TV staples for the youth set. The plan announced today at Mipcom is to develop new series for each property with a target 2017 launch.

Barney originally aired from 1992-2009, with 248 episodes in the library plus 25 hours of specials. Angelina Ballerina, based on the books created by author Katharine Holabird and illustrator Helen Craig, originally aired from 2001-2006 and ran for two seasons with 39 episodes and three specials.

Oh god. The annoying purple thing is back. How could any parent stand Barney "I Love You," over and over and over coming out of the TV at the end of every broadcast?
I would much rather have Mister Rogers come back from the grave (or even from the 30+ years of archives). Now that was great educational TV for kids!

Back in the 90s, this annoying little ditty kept bouncing around in my head, sung to the tune of "Anarchy in the U.K.":

Barney is the Anti-Christ
Barney is an anarchist...
(hum along to melody until..)
Barney, Barney is...an anarchist.

The Connecticut-Texas Axis of Evil has been reborn?
