Barney Fife (Don Knotts) bought the farm

and Darren McGavin as well....

Actor Darren McGavin(1922-2006), best known for his role as Carl Kolchak in the 70's TV series "The Night Stalker" passed away Saturday. He also appeared as Oliver Spencer in the first "Six Million Dollar Man" TV movie, which was later titled "The Moon and the Desert" in syndication. And Darren McGavin was on "The Riverboat" TV series as Captain Holden from 1959-61.

I know this year ABC tried reviving the "Night Stalker" and it just didn't fly. Seems Darren McGavin and the late Simon Oakland made a good team on the original show.

They say that celebrity deaths come in 3's----makes you wonder who #3 is going to be in addition to Don Knotts and Darren McGavin...

'Gunsmoke,' & 'McCloud' Star Dennis Weaver Dies

POSTED: 9:40 am PST February 27, 2006
UPDATED: 11:09 am PST February 27, 2006

Actor Dennis Weaver has died.

Weaver played the gimpy, slow-witted deputy Chester Goode in the television classic western "Gunsmoke" and the New Mexico deputy solving New York crime in "McCloud."

Weaver died of complications from cancer Friday, at his home in Ridgway, in southwestern Colorado, his publicist Julian Myers said.

He was 81.

Weaver was a struggling actor in Hollywood in 1955, earning $60 a week delivering flowers when he was offered $300 a week for a role in a new CBS television series, "Gunsmoke." By the end of his nine years with "Gunsmoke," he was earning $9,000 a week.

Weaver won an Emmy in 1959 for Best Supporting Actor on the series. He was nominated for the honor the previous year.

He also earned Best Actor Emmy nominations for "McCloud in 1974 and 1975. Weaver played the title character on the show for seven seasons, beginning in 1970.

The actor is also known for his role as Clint Howard's father on the 1960s television series "Gentle Ben."

Weaver's other television roles included "Lonesome Dove: The Series," and he also guest starred on such shows as "Magnum, P.I." and "The Simpsons."

The actor also starred in Steven Spielberg's first film, 1971's "Duel." Among his last acting jobs was a voice role in the Disney animated feature, "Home on the Range," in 2004.

Weaver also was an environmental and recycling advocate, supervising the construction of his own "earthship" home from castoffs like aluminum cans and rubber tires.
