Barney Pip

I appreciate all the stories about Barney Pip. I am his niece, but because of divorces and complicated family issues with my mother, Barney's sister, I know very little about his history to pass on down the family line. I remember listening to him as a kid and always amazed at how different he sounded on the radio compared to real life. We visited him once when he was working in Chicago. Would love to see more from people who knew him and any more history to pass on. Thanks

I didn't know Barney, but I became a major fan the first time I heard him on 1310/WISH in Indianapolis. I believe he had left Milwaukee for Indianapolis.

I stll remember Barney doing his show from a window in Wasson's Departent Store at the corner of Meridian and Washington in downtown Indy. I don't remember how long he did his show from the window, but my best friend and I drove downtown several times to watch him...and what a great trumpet player he was. He was too big for Indianapolis so he didn't stay long, and I was very happy to hear him again, this time on Super CFL.

I'm sure there are also board members who post on the Wisconsin and Indianapolis boards who would have worked with Barney. Might try starting a thread there also.

If the person who started this thread will contact me, I know everything there is to know about Barney Pip both professionally and personally. I knew him very well from 1967 until his death in 1994. I did the eulogy at his Indianapolis funeral in June of 1994 at the request of some of his family members. He worked for me, at one point,
at some stations that I owned. I also have a lot of Barney Pip WCFL and WPIX-FM memorabilia.

Later in Barney's djing days he jock in my home town 97-DJ (WBDJ) in Brazil, IN. He would blow on that horn of his and then go into the next song!! Loved It. Later when I read about him and how he was such a great talent in Chicago I only gew to appreciate that we had him for a short while in our small town on it's 6kw fm. Thanks Ricky The K for bringing him to us back then. Would love to hear some air-checks of him on 97 DJ. That station was the best and sounded even better!!
