Barrie ONT

Historically Barrie had its own extended market, fully separate from Toronto-Hamilton. I am not sure if Barrie is now considered a central market within Toronto-Hamilton or not, but it wouldn't surprise me.
______________

Barrie's A channel is expected to provide News and information for Barrie, Collingwood and areas that actually go AWAY from Toronto and Hamilton.

Duely note the Federal election as an example.
Notice that they were NOT a City repeater for the coverage. Lance what ever's his name hosted a seperate special edition election night that talked about Barrie, Collingwood and area out that way...far from Toronto and opposite direction of Hamilton.

Was there a focus on York Region? I asked CHUM about the programming strategy on CKVR and they said that while they haven't abandoned Barrie, they are providing coverage to an area that has historically been underrepresented by other broadcasters, that being York Region. And truthfully, I don't think any Toronto broadcasters except maybe CFTO cover Newmarket and surrounding area with regularity. And while Barrie is the city of license, we must remember that a good portion of York Region is within the station's A-grade signal contour.
______________

That's an excellent point. I know there was attention given to Belenda in Aurrora, but it may be attention that perhaps would have been ignored if it weren't for her jump from the Conservatives to the Liberals...
______________
